A. Flores 1975 Gran Reserva Desflorada Cigar review

PDR Cigars added to their Gran Reserva line in 2016 with the introduction of the A. Flores 1975 Gran Reserva Desflorada.

A. Flores 1975 Gran Reserva Desflorada

The A. Flores 1975 Gran Reserva Desflorada blend is described as:

  • Wrapper – Ecuadorian Connecticut
  • Binder – Ecuadorian Habano and Nicaraguan Jalapa
  • Filler – Dominican Republic and Nicaragua

The wrapper is grown using the desflorada method, which is a process where the plant is deflowered. This creates a more flavorful wrapper by allowing the nutrients to move into the leaf. PDR is one of a few brands that have used this type of leaf.

The A. Flores 1975 Gran Reserva Desflorada is available in 5 vitolas:

  • Half Corona (3.5 x 46) MSRP $5.09
  • Robusto (5 x 52) MSRP $12.35
  • Torpedo (6.5 x 52) MSRP $14.95
  • Grand Toro (6 x 54) MSRP $14.10
  • Double Magnum (6 x 60) MSRP  $15.80

For this review I sampled the A. Flores 1975 Gran Reserva Desflorada Robusto

Cigar Review Notes

  • Beautiful Connecticut wrapped cigar
  • Well packed with outer cedar sleeve finished with a white satin band
  • Butter and hay aroma off foot
  • Cold draw is to my liking and offers a slight Connecticut bittersweet note with a hint of anise after I roll it around for a bit
  • Full volume of buttery smoke right off the initial light
  • Lemon grass notes enter quickly
  • Medium grey ash on a fairly thick char line
  • Citrus intensifies with a touch of sweetness – it is like drinking a lemon drop shot
  • Cedar aroma
  • Spice and coffee join the ranks nearing the halfway point
  • Sweetness and spice are doing a tango on my palate!
  • Anice is hiding in the background just south of the band
  • The aroma is a spicy nut
  • Char line thins out in the second half
  • Predominant flavor has been lemon citrus
  • Dry leather near the end
  • Any Connecticut bitterness is toned way down on this delightful smoke
  • Citrus has a long refreshing finish
  • Ash was solid to the nub
  • Total Smoking Time – 80 minutes

Overall, the A. Flores 1975 Gran Reserva Desflorada is exactly what a well made, Connecticut shade cigar, should be. This cigar was flavorful and dare I say “refreshing”. certainly pairs well with a morning cup of coffee or perhaps an Italian style, espresso, with Sambuca and lemon peel.
