Epic Maduro Reserva – Rough Cut Cigar Review

Dean Parsons launched the Epic cigar brand back in 2012 and the inaugural cigar for that launch was the Epic Maduro Reserva. I am not sure if Dean realized what an Epic cigar he created, but then again, having met Dean, I would say he knew what he had. Four years later the Epic Maduro is still on the market and pleasing palates.

Epic Maduro Reserva

Today we take a Stogie Press look at the Epic Maduro Reserva.

To begin with, this cigar has a very special, multi-country blend consisting of:

  • Wrapper: Brazilian Arapiraca
  • Binder: Cameroon
  • Filler: Dominican & Nicaraguan

The Epic Maduro Reserva is available in 5 vitolas and packaged in 20-count boxes. Dean added a the BP Torpedo this year to the line up.

  • BP Torpedo (NEW) – 6  x  52
  • Gordo – 6  x  60
  • Double Corona – 5  x  54
  • Robusto – 5.5  x  52
  • Lancero – 7.5  x  40

For this review I sampled the Epic Maduro Reserva Robusto

  • Hay and barnyard aroma on foot
  • Pungent fermented tobacco is sniffed along the barrel
  • Dark brown wrapper with some grit to it
  • Well packed with tight seams
  • Cold draw is unrestricted with notes of citrus, pepper, and fermented leaf
  • Initial puffs provide a toasty and fruity smoke
  • The fruit reveals itself as a spicy plum
  • Light grey ash with a thin char line
  • Nice backdrop of coffee after first third with a lemon zest touch
  • Burn is fantastic with a long ash
  • Midway through second third there is a buttery note
  • Smooth smoke easy on retro-hale
  • Spice builds at the end of the second third
  • Nut aroma
  • The final third brings spice and sweetness enveloped in cedar
  • Medium to full strength

Overall the Epic Maduro Reserva was a fine smoke that delivered an array of flavors that pleased the palate. I can understand why this was one of the first cigars that Dean Parsons created. It is well deserving of the name “Epic”. I would describe this as a dessert cigar, one that I would enjoy after dinner with a nice double espresso, Sambuca, and lemon rind.
