Inferno 3rd Degree by Oliva – Cigar Review

Famous Smoke Shop, popular for some of the best online prices for cigars in addition to fabulous collaborations with some of the big names in the industry has introduced the 3rd installment of the famed Inferno cigar – a collaboration with the Oliva Cigar Company. The original Inferno was introduced back in 2012 and followed later in 2014 with the Inferno Flash Point. This year they have introduced the Inferno 3rd Degree. Inferno cigars are available exclusively at Famous Smoke Shop here.

Lately in Florida and in spots across the USA it has been incredibly hot but that doesn’t stop us from enjoying a good cigar even when we are outside. So it was only appropriate that I was recently sent a sample of the Inferno 3rd Degree.  Thanks guys.

Examining the Inferno 3rd degree you will notice the dark brown Habano wrapper that has a few noticeable veins. Besides the Habano wrapper the rest of the blend is rounded out with a Habano binder and Nicaraguan filler that contains both Ligero and Viso leaf.  The band is simple in design with the word Inferno in white on a black background and the letter “e” burning up with a red flame over it. It is finished with a red circle with the word “3rd” in black.

The Inferno 3rd Degree is available in 20 count boxes  and 4 different vitolas:

  • Robusto: 5 x 50
  • Toro: 6 x 50
  • Double Toro: 6 x 60
  • Churchill: 7 x 50

Today I sampled the Toro for this review.

The Inferno 3rd Degree pre-light scent was basically sweet tobacco and the dry draw offered some sweetness and pepper on the lips along with an open draw.

Once fired up the Inferno 3rd Degree produced a blast of pepper but took a few puffs to get there. After an inch into the burn the pepper subsided and a delicious coffee note entered the profile. Man it is hot out today and the sweat is dripping off my brow, but that is not a result of the Inferno cigar but the sweltering heat in the Stogie Press lounge.

I decided to pair the Inferno 3rd Degree by Oliva with a cool refreshing Jai Alai India Pale Ale  from the Cigar City Brewing Company.

The medium gray ash on the Inferno 3rd Degree would not make the best ash page as it holds for about an inch at a time. I am glad I wear my smoking shirts when I do these reviews as I will always ash on my shirt the first time I smoke a new stick.

The second third opens up with nutty aroma and a some sweetness in the smoke. With a name like the the “3rd Degree” I was expecting a fuller strength cigar but it surprised me by being more of a mild to medium cigar. You could easily enjoy the Inferno 3rd Degree with your morning coffee or the last cigar of the evening with a glass of port wine to add to the flavors.

As it neared the final third there was a sweet almond note coming in that lingered a little longer on the palate and this remained through the reminder of the smoke, with a s sprinkle of added pepper on the nose.

Overall the Inferno 3rd Degree is a decent cigar that offers some flavor delights and had good construction. It is priced right

The Famous Smoke press release on the 3rd Degree stated:

Inferno 3rd Degree cigars are made by Oliva which already has a sterling reputation for their consistency and quality. This is nothing short of another outstanding cigar in their arsenal. The interesting thing about this that not many people may know, is that it maintains a low price tag for customers to take advantage of because the tobaccos are mainly all grown on Oliva’s farms. That means our customers get premium tobacco without the inflated cost of Oliva buying an outside grower’s tobacco. It’s a genius farm to table concept which resulted in this top shelf cigar.
