La Aurora 107 Cosecha 2006 Cigar Review

A hundred and seven years (107), that is a long time to be in business. Two World wars, revolutions, rise and fall of nations. A lot happens in 107 years, and in the cigar business that is more than one lifetime. In fact, with the many ebbs and tides, regulations, and laws in the tobacco business it is truly amazing. That is what La Aurora Cigars celebrated in 2010, with the introduction of the La Aurora 107. You know what? Why not celebrate another year in business, especially when you have gone past 100? Heck, I celebrate just waking up in the morning some times, and I am just a little more than half that old.

La Aurora 107 Cosecha 2006Well, this past year in 2016, La Aurora introduced the latest incarnation of the famed La Aurora 107. This time it got an additional adjective – “Cosecha 2006″. The name literally means ” 2006 Harvest Season”. That’s right, the leaf used in this blend has been aging since it was harvested in 2006, ten years laying in waiting, to be married together by the masters at La Aurora.

The La Aurora 107 Cosecha 2006 blend is described as:

  • Wrapper – Ecuadorian Habano
  • Binder – Brazilian Mata Fina
  • Filler – Dominican and Nicaraugua

La Aurora Cigars offers the 107 Cosecha 2006 in 3 vitolas each packaged in 10-count boxes.

  • Robusto Especial (5 x 54)  MSRP $9.00
  • Corona Gorda Especial (6 x 47) MSRP $10.00
  • Churchill Especial (7 x 50) MSRP $11.00

For this review I sampled the La Aurora 107 Cosecha 2006 Corona Gorda Especial

  • Medium brown toothy wrapper with a mild sheen
  • Deep nutmeg on the foot with a hint of floral like a spring day with everything in bloom
  • Barrel offers some spice and fermented tobacco
  • Cold draw is open fine with a hint of bitters, sprinkle of red pepper, touch of raison
  • Quick nasal burn to start with a rich full body of smoke
  • Dry leather and cocoa follow quickly
  • The salt and pepper ash rests on a thick char line
  • A light oil is developing on the wrapper after the 1st inch
  • Orange zest enters to further entice the palate
  • Ash fell into the second third
  • Burn has been perfect
  • Sweetness develops
  • Smoke is smooth with a touch of spice and continued dry cocoa and fruit
  • Aroma has shifted to more of a sweet nut
  • Touch of vanilla and spice bring this delight to a finish
  • Medium to full strength
  • Took this one down to the nub in 1 hour and 45 minutes

Overall, La Aurora 107 Cosecha 2006 was exactly what I expect from a 113 year old cigar company. Though limited in production this is a cigar every aficionado should try. The flavors transitioned well and the construction was spot on.
