Now that I made it home from Washington D.C. after long delays and flight cancellations on Delta Airlines, I can talk some more about the Save the Leaf weekend held August 6 – 8 in Washington D.C.. Day 2 of Save the Leaf was sponsored by Gurkha Cigars, and we can’t thank them enough for all the cigars and SWAG they provided to be raffled off. Sunday’s event was spectacular, as we all convened on the back lawn of the Marriott Hotel in College Park to make signs for the main event held on Monday August 8th. Well over $1,000 dollars was raised to support this cause.

More Brothers and Sisters of the Leaf arrived on Sunday from as far away as California. Imaging that, taking time off from family and work to support the protest against the impending FDA cigar regulations that went into effect Monday August 8th. The lawn looked like a microcosm of America, just like any cigar shop you enter. Folks of all race, creed, and economic status, gathered together and spent the day making protest signs.

Here is a slide show of the event.

In addition to the fun and fellowship had by all, loads of cigars were donated to Cigars for Warriors, a charity that supports our active military, by raising funds and shipping donated cigars to them in theater. The Cigar Rights of America (CRA) was present with Glynn Loope, the Executive Director of the CRA. They added more members throughout the day, raising much-needed funds to continue with the battle for Cigar Freedom. Glynn gave a riveting speech,  as a preamble, to that which he gave in front of the Capital the following day at the main event.

Sunday’s event ran from the morning till the wee hours of the night, with some hanging around till 1 or 2 AM talking and puffing on their favorite cigars and getting to know fellow cigar lovers they just met. Eventually everyone returned to their homes  and hotel rooms, to rest up for the main event on Monday being held on the West Lawn of the US Capital. The Save the Leaf organizers and volunteers would like to thank Gurkha Cigars for helping out to make this an event for the ages.

Come back and visit Stogie Press for the report on the main event. We can only hope that the current Presidential candidates, Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Gary Johnson, and Jill Stein  hear our word. We are 2 million strong in the US and we vote. All those in Congress and the Senate should understand that too.
