Tre-J Invictis Cigar – Rough Cut Cigar Review

Tre-J Invictis Cigar

Tre-J cigars, founded by Jay Clark, John Johnson and Jerry Garrett may be best known for their Vicarias line of cigars, but back in 2015 they got together with José Blanco and Emma Viktorsson to blend and design a new line known as the Invictis. Emma  designed the packaging. The Invictis should not be confused with the Padilla Invictus cigar.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jerry Garrett  at this years Save The Leaf Capital Herf in Washington DC,  and his passion for cigars and the industry as whole was clearly evident. The company is currently redesigning their website but you can reach out to them on their Facebook Page.

Jerry explained that the Invictis cigar is blend of:

  • Wrapper – Ecuadorian Habano
  • Binder – Dominican
  • Filler – Dominican Criollo ’98 and Pilot Cubano

It is available in three vitolas:

  • Legions – 5.5 x 50
  • Centurio – 5.25 x 50
  • Emperor – 6 x 54

The Tre-J Invictis cigar is manufactured at Tabacalera La Palma factory in the Dominican Republic which is where José Blanco produces the Señorial line. Pricing ranges from $6.00 – $8.50.

For this review I sampled the 6 x 54 Emperor.

  • Toasty sweet aroma off foot
  • Hint of pepper and some caramel  on cold draw
  • Slight restriction to draw
  • Waxy dark brown veiny wrapper
  • Sweetness and wood to start
  • Caramel fills in the early burn
  • Spicy pepper nut aroma
  • Decent white ash thick char line
  • Oils start building early
  • Ash is solid but gets a little flaky
  • Smooth full body of smoke
  • Ash fell after about an inch and half
  • Flat burn cone
  • Leather and fruit develop
  • Woody half way
  • Slight wave in burn required a mild touch up
  • Cherry fruit and nut aroma
  • The cherry finds its way onto the palate
  • Spice enters the mix in final third
  • Salty butter note completes the finish
  • Medium-Full strength

Overall, the Tre-J Invictis cigar was a fine 90 minute smoke that delivered on flavor and strength. It did require a one time slight touch-up.
