Vintage Rock-A-Feller Nicaraguan Habano Cigar Review – Are You Ready to Rock?

Today I would like to present the final review of the Vintage Rock-A-Feller Nicaragua series of cigars. This time it is the Habano blend. If you have read the previous reviews you know that Kevin Schweitzer, the new proprietor of the Vintage Rock-A-Feller Cigar Group (VRCG), is determined to offer the pleasure of a fine cigar to all. With a lineup that is sure to please all palates, whether you are a distinguished connoisseur or just beginning to experience the pleasure, VRCG Cigars has a cigar for you.

The company’s website is clear to point out:

“I have traveled across America introducing myself as the new President of Vintage Rockefeller Cigars, and the feedback has been extremely positive! We have introduced our (until recently) private blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos to a handful of cigar lovers who have all commented on the quality and exceptional flavor. It really is an exciting time to be involved in the cigar industry!”

Schweitzer has made it clear that he wants to erase the stigma that cigars can only be enjoyed by retirees or older gentlemen. Rock-A-Feller® cigars are meant to not only be smoked by baby boomers, but also to the massive and discerning group of millennial demographics who are primed to discover the joy of smoking a great cigar and the natural camaraderie that cigar smokers receive worldwide.

The Vintage Rock-A-Feller Nicaraguan Habano is an outstanding blend described as:

  • Wrapper: Equadorian Habano
  • Binder: Equadorian
  • Filler: 3x Ometepe, Esteli, Jalapa

The Vintage Rock-A-Feller Nicaraguan Habano, like the others in the Vintage Nicaraguan lineup, is available in 5 vitolas:

  • Robusto – 5 x 52
  • Toro – 6 x 52
  • Torpedo – 6 1/8 x 52
  • Churchill – 7 x 48
  • Toro Gordo – 6 x 60

They are packaged in beautiful 20-count white gloss boxes.

Rock A Feller Vintage Nicaraguan Habano

Pre-light Examination

The Vintage Rock-A-Feller Nicaraguan Habano is wrapped with a dark tan Equadorian Habano leaf that has a slight orange tinge to it and finished with a thick cap. The band is classic Rock-A-Feller with the words  ROCK-A-FELLER VRC ESTELI R NICARAGUA 2010 CIGARS printed across it. Running it across the nose I pick up a sweet fermented leaf on shaft and sweet citrus aroma off the foot.

Once cut, the Vintage Rock-A-Feller Nicaraguan Habano  has a lightly restricted draw with notes of pepper, earth, and leather.

For this review I sampled the Vintage Rock-A-Feller Nicaraguan Habano Robusto and paired it with the second Red Sox game of the 2017 season which they won.

Cigar Review Notes

  • 1st light is a wake up of pepper with a protruding coffee note
  • The pepper settles quick and a delicate sweetness enters mixing with the coffee
  • Smoke smoothed out by the end of first inch
  • The sweetness is well pronounced with a hint of cedar filtering in the background
  • Creamy coffee develops
  • Once the ash falls you will  notice a well centered flattened burn cone
  • A spice note moves into the profile blending well with the sweetness
  • The burn is perfect so far with a slight spring to the body at the half way point
  • Smoke volume is medium
  • The sweetness is lip smacking good on this
  • Spice continues, wrapped in sweetness, as it moves into the final
  • Medium strength
  • Total Smoking Time was right around 1 hour

Overall, the Vintage Rock-A-Feller Nicaraguan Habano was a spicy sweet delicacy that offered a smooth and tasty mix of notes. This is one of those cigars that can be easily enjoyed in the mid afternoon. Though not overly complex, it would be enjoyed by both the connoisseur and newbie alike. The ever-present sweetness in this makes for a great pairing with a cafe cubano to keep your day moving along.
