Casa Fernandez Buena Cosecha Corojo Cigar Review – A Good Harvest

As I start the journey through the latest releases from this years IPCPR, I would like to begin with a review of the new  Casa Fernandez Buena Cosecha Corojo.

Casa Fernandez, famous for its Aganorsa farm-grown Nicaraguan tobacco and collaborations with some of the finest boutique blends on the market including Viaje, Warped, Illusione and Ezra Zion, introduced its latest creation the Buena Cosecha at this years IPCPR. This new introduction represents a return to the company’s Aganorsa leaf. In fact this is 100% pure Aganorsa and has been described by some as a decadent cigar. The name Buena Cosecha translates to Good Harvest and that is what it takes to make an outstanding cigar along with a master blender and skilled toredors.

The blend of the Buena Cosecha is described as:

  • Wrapper – Nicaraguan Corojo ’99
  • Binder –  Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 and Criollo ’98 binder
  • Filler – Nicaraguan

Get the picture – it is a Nicaraguan Puro and manufactured at Casa Fernandez’s TABSA (Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A.)  factory in Jalapa, Nicaragua.

The Casa Fernandez Buena Cosecha Corojo is available in 3 vitolas and packaged in 20-count boxes:

  • Robusto (5 x 50) MSRP $7.00
  • Toro (6 x 50) MSRP $8.00
  • Torpedo (6.25 x 54) MSRP $8.00

At this price point it is a must try, and as you read you may want to buy more than one.  For this review I sampled the Robusto vitola which I received from the company for the purpose of reviewing on Stogie press.

Pre-Light Examination

The Casa Fernandez Buena Cosecha Corojo is a dark tan cigar with a perfectly applied triple cap. It has a decent weight in the hand for a robusto and was well packed with no soft spots throughout. The wrapper is light on veins with barley noticeable seams and has a nice sheen under the light. There are some bumps along the barrel.

The band on this cigar is festive in design, with its yellowish-orange, red and gold motif. The words Buena Cosecha are proudly displayed in the center.

The pre-light aromas included a sweet spice along  the barrel and inviting fruit and hay off the foot.

Once cut, the cold draw offered notes of pepper and earth delivered through a mildly restricted draw.

Time  to light it up and turn it to ash.
