Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut Cigar Review

Six years ago, Nick Perdomo and his team celebrated 20 years in the business. As part of that celebration they released some special blends to commemorate the event. These cigars were aptly known as the Perdomo 20th Anniversary series. There were 2 blends initially; a Nicaraguan Sungrown and a Nicaraguan Maduro. Fans of Perdomo though also wanted a slightly milder cigar so in 2016 they launched the 3rd blend in the series, the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut. By doing so they rounded out the portfolio. I reviewed the Perdomo Nicaraguan Sungrown last month and today I will be reviewing the Connecticut blend.

The Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut blend is described by the company as:

  • Wrapper – Ecuadorian Connecticut
  • Binder – Nicaragua
  • Filler – Nicaragua

The cigar is available in 7 vitolas and come packaged in 24-count boxes:

  • Churchill (7 x 56) MSRP $10.00
  • Corona Gorda (6.5 x 48) MSRP $7.75
  • Epicure (6 x 56, $8.50) MSRP $8.50
  • Gordo (6 x 60, $8.67) MSRP $8.67
  • Pyramid (6.5 x 60, $10) MSRP $10.00
  • Robusto (5 x 56, $8) MSRP $8.00
  • Torpedo (6.5 x 54, $9) MSRP $9.00

For this review I sampled the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut Gordo,  which I received as part of the package at the 2018 Smoke Inn Great Smoke this past February.

Pre-Light Review

The Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut is a satin-smooth cigar with a light tan wrapper that has a decent oily sheen to it. There are virtually no veins in the wrapper. Solid in the hand, the cigar is finished with a double cap.

There is one large band that adorns this cigar which uses a gold, black, white, and red motif. The top of the band contains the Perdomo logo spread across a golden back ground. The bottom of the band has the golden phrase “20th Anniversary” printed in a bright red background.

Perdomo 20th Anniversary ConnecticutRunning the cigar across the nose, I picked up natural sweetness and light chocolate aroma along the barrel and  a rich chocolate aroma off the foot. I went back a few times to smell the foot as it was quite enticing.

I sliced the cap across the cap line and gave it some cold draw puffs. I was greeted with notes of cocoa, nut, and peppery spice.

  • Mild start with notes of nut and fruit with just a light spice
  • Salt and pepper ash forms on medium char line
  • Crisp burn
  • Fruit is moving more front with a core of natural tobacco sweetness
  • Nut aroma
  • This is one of those cigars you can lay down and it will remain burning ready to smoke
  • Ash fell after a solid burn and revealed a well-formed and centered burn cone
  • Cedar notes enter near midway with the fruit turning more citrus
  • Aroma gets the cedar in it
  • Butter and light spice enter near the end of the second third
  • Fruit becomes more dry fruit into the final third
  • Flavors maintains through the end
  • Mild to  Medium in strength
  • Total Smoking Time was 1 hour and 35 minutes

Overall, the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut was an elegant smoke that had terrific flavor transitions and a core of fruit and sweetness.  This is an excellent cigar that I would highly recommend as the first cigar of the day paired with a sweet espresso.  I would certainly pick up more of these when I see them on the  humidor shelf. These are readily available in most Brick and Mortar shops and Online retailers.
