Felix Mesa of El Galan Cigars once again reveres his grandmother in the latest release of the El Galan Cigars Doña Nievas Sentimento. The original Doña Nieves was released in 2014. This years introduction at the Las Vegas IPCPR was a Oscuro wrapped version of the tribute.
The Doña Nievas Sentimento is available in 3 box-pressed vitolas and packaged in 21-count boxes:
- Emocion (6 x 50) MSRP $6.70
- Aprecio (6 x 52) MSRP $6.80
- Ternura (6 x 54) MSRP $7.00
Each name is a reflection of the love of Felix’s Grandmother:
- Emocion – Emotion
- Aprecio – Appreciation
- Ternura – Tenderness
The Doña Nievas Sentimento blend is described as:
- Wrapper: Nicaraguan Jalapa Oscuro
- Binder: Nicaragua
- Filler: Nicaragua
For this review I sampled the Ternura Torpedo
Cigar Review Notes
- Medium to dark wrapper with a slight waxy to it
- Nicely boxed pressed – finished to a pencil point tip
- Some noticeable veins
- Sweet milk chocolate aroma off the foot
- Simple slice on the head and the cold draw offers some pepper
- Mild start with notes of muted spice, coffee, and oak
- The dark grey ash rests on a thick char line that has developed a slight run after the first inch
- The run fixed itself as the flavors started to develop
- Oak tones down as the spice increases slightly. A touch of dry leather wraps around an emerging citrus fruit
- Spicy aroma
- Ash fell finally after two inches – good recovery
- Decently centered burn cone
- The citrus evolves into a spicy cherry note at the half way point
- Almond breaks in at the end of the second third
- Flavor mellows into the final third with a light toast and a spice aroma and a spicy buttery finish
- Very oily wrapper
- Total smoking time was an hour and 20 minutes
Overall, El Galan Doña Nievas Sentimento was a flavorful smoke from foot to nub. The blend transitioned well keeping the palate enticed. The burn was wavy at times but corrected itself without any touch-up. The ash was fairly solid and picked up well after each fall.
