Today we offer a review of the second cigar in the Ceron Premium Cigars lineup. This one is the Sumatra blend. You may have read our review of the Ceron San Andres a few months back. Ceron Premium Cigars is a relatively new boutique cigar company founded by Javier Ceron.

All of our tobaccos are carefully selected and only the highest graded will make it to our cigars. Our main focus and efforts are in the quality of our cigars.
I had the pleasure of meeting Javier at the IPCPR last year in Vegas where he share a booth with Francisco Almonte and Dominican Big Leaguer (DBL) cigars. He is most definitely a man who is passionate about cigars and his brand, believing that craftsmanship and quality tobacco is the key to success in the cigar market. That is why he partnered with Francisco Almonte, owner of Tabacalera DBL in the Dominican Republic, to produce his cigars. All the Dominican tobacco used in his creations come directly from the DBL farms and he carefully selects the other leaf in his blends from the best on the market.
The Ceron Sumatra is a fine example of that leaf selection with a blend described as:
- Wrapper – Ecuadorian Sun Grown Sumatra
- Binder – Ecuadorian
- Filler – Dominican and Nicaraguan

Pre-Light Examination
The Ceron Sumatra is a heavily marbled medium to dark brown cigar with a light amount of veins. It is triple capped and adorned with a cream-colored band proudly declaring it as a CERON cigar.
The aromas on this were clearly raisin and spice off the foot and along the shaft.. If you are familiar with DBL cigars you would recognize that signature aroma. Once the cap is cut, the pre-light draw was lightly restricted and offered notes of pepper, spice, and fruit.
So lets fire it up and see what Javier and Ceron Premium Cigars offers with the Sumatra blend.
- First light offers a refreshing fruit component laced with a nasal opening spice
- Gentle citrus tang builds
- Light grey ash
- Slightly off-center burn cone
- Smooth smoke as it burns through the first third
- Long raisin finish with a sweetness on the lips
- Roasted nut aroma is developing
- Strength is moving into the medium end of first third
- Burn gets wavy midway
- Full body of smoke
- The wrapper is oozing oils
- Lingering nut on the palate
- Mild touch up fixes the burn and it is good to go into second third
- There is a springy feel to the touch
- Slight astringent note moving into final third
- Spice builds into the end
- Burns a tad hot at the end
- Medium full in strength
- Total Smoking Time 1 hour and 13 minutes.
Overall, the Ceron Premium Cigars Sumatra was a decent cigar that was not overly complex but offered some consistent notes of spice, fruit, and nut. to keep your palate entertained. I am thinking a spiced run would pair well with this.
