Many of us cigar enthusiasts are familiar with Shorty Rossi and his mission to save abused dogs. Shorty has a storied life but there are two things I know he loves – cigars and dogs. I have known Shorty for a number of years now and even recall going to a Detroit Tigers game one night where he brought his most beloved Pit Bull, Hercules, to the park. The parents and their children sitting near us were a bit nervous at first, but with a little discussion, education, and petting of Hercules, they quickly changed their demeanor. That is what Shorty does!
Dog and Cigar Lovers Unite
I too am a dog lover, in fact I don’t think I could live without a dog in my life. They bring so much joy and love to a family. So it was heart warming to learn today, Shorty is extending his mission to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home bully breeds to Mexico.
Shorty is opening a rescue center and clinic in Mexico, known as Hercules’ Clinic. It will be part of Shorty’s Rescue, Inc, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a public charity 170 (b) (1) (A) (vi) classification. The name of the clinic is in memory of his beloved Pit Bull who passed away last year.
The mission of the new rescue center and clinic is defined as:
- Offer monthly free veterinary care to low-income individuals and families.
- Provide free monthly dog obedience training classes to low-income individuals and families.
- Rescue, rehabilitate, train, and re-home bully breeds.
- Offer free spay and neuter clinics to low-income individuals and families.
- Participate in Keynote Speaking Engagements.
- Enlighten Bully Breed Breeders of their contribution to the homeless Bully Breed Population.
- Pet Owner Support Program to keep our Bully Breeds where they belong by providing food, veterinary care, and training to qualifying individuals.
- Education Resource for responsible Breed Guardianship, Breed Awareness, Animal Rights, and fighting against BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) laws.
