During my northern tour of cigar lounges last month I took the opportunity to check out the new Burn by Rocky Patel lounge in Pittsburgh, PA. My friend and Stogie Press associate Mike Bruce, who lives in the area, were dropped off at the lounge by Melody from Leaf & Bean after we spent the day with her touring Island Jim Robinson’s establishments.
This new high end cigar lounge is located in the heart of Pittsburgh and like all Burn lounges, it represents the city it is located. In this case the city is Pittsburgh, PA – the city of steel and bridges. The home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Rocky kept true to form in the creation of this beautiful lounge, mixing in steel decor with a traditional Indian motif. As you walk down North Shore Drive, passing restaurants and shops, you can’t help but notice the Burn lounge with it large outdoor smoking patio and bold corner sign.

The patio is decorated a lot like a cabana and includes gas heaters for the chilly Pittsburgh days and nights. It has comfortable seating and tables so you can burn one, sip a cocktail, and people watch along the drive.
Once you enter the lounge you get the full Pittsburgh experience. There is plenty of steel in the lounge, especially the numerous “bird cage” chairs spread out across the floor. The are plenty of seating areas, in addition to those chairs, including leather couches and seats. There is ample space and plenty of flat screen TV’s to relax with friends while you enjoy your favorite smoke.

Beyond the seating area, there is a huge center bar that is fully stocked with the best spirits, wine, and brews. Besides cigars and drink, the lounge has a fully operational kitchen and offers selection of salads, sandwiches, pizza, and shareable dishes. As I was bit hungry after a long morning and early afternoon at Leaf & Bean, I decided I would order up something and with a little help from my friend Mike the choice was easy – Pierogi’s – the staple snack of Pittsburgh. One look at the dish, and Mike declared, “those are some nice Pierogi’s”. Once i sank my teeth into them, I wholeheartedly agreed.
Of course a cigar lounge is a place to smoke cigars and Burn does not disappoint. Behind the bar area, is a huge walk in humidor with a large glass wall facing out to the bar. The humidor has a full selection of the most popular and classic cigar brands on the market. Of course there is a complete collection of Rocky Patel blends too. The humidor is staffed by a full time attendant who will help you choose the prefect cigar for your stay and will offer to cut and light it for you too – if you so desire.

Membership Has its Privilege
Also included in the humidor are private lockers for those that purchase a membership to the lounge; and membership comes with privilege. There are two levels of membership, Individual and Corporate. Each provides a locker and a special Platinum Members card.
Individual Locker Members (one member per locker) Standard Locker – $2,000 initial year rental charge / $1,500 annual renewal. Includes one Platinum Card per locker and an early claim option for VIP events and for “Members Lounge” area reservations during special “Members Only” parties.
Corporate Locker Membership (up to four members per locker) Standard Locker – $4,000 initial year rental charge / $3,500 annual renewal. Includes up to (4) Platinum Cards per locker and an early claim option for VIP events and for “Members Lounge” area reservations during special “Members Only” parties.
The Platinum Card, which only comes with a locker, provides the following benefits:
- 25% off all Rocky Patel cigars and Rocky Patel branded accessory purchases, excluding specials
- 15% all other cigar brands and accessories, excluding specials
- Waived entrance fee for the card holder and up to (4) guests, excludes special events
- Free entry to most cigar events, restrictions apply
- Card holder allotted up to (3) guests on their check for parties
Rocky Swag

Although our visit was short, I very much enjoyed the Burn by Rocky Patel experience. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable and the Bombay Sapphire martini I ordered was made to perfection as were those Pierogi’s.
