Cigar News: Crowned Heads Announces Las Calaveras EL

Crowned Heads has announced its ninth installment to the Las Calaveras series, Las Calaveras EL 2022.

The Las Calaveras EL 2022 is highlighted by a first-ever for the series in terms of the wrapper leaf selection for this year’s blend. This year’s Las Calaveras blend of all Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos is finished with a Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 wrapper leaf.

Crowned Heads co-founder, Jon Huber noted:

“This is the second consecutive year that we’ve introduced a new wrapper to the Las Calaveras marca. The corojo oscuro wrapper results in a flavor profile that, in my opinion, is reminiscent of the signature ‘My Father’ style of delivering classic Nicaraguan structure and intensity, while retaining complexity and balance.”

Introduced in 2014, Las Calaveras began as a tribute to those who have passed on in the previous year, and is intended to be a celebration of life and remembrance, as opposed to a mournful symbol of death or loss. Each year, the Las Calaveras band is adorned with the initials of four individuals who’ve passed the prior year, one set of initials embossed upon each of the four coins on the sides of each band.

The cigars are presented in 24-count boxes, three rows of eight cigars each, as the number ‘8’ is a symbol of infinity as in everlasting life, while the three rows represent the beginning, middle, and end of the cycle of life.

A total of 1,500 boxes of each of the three vitolas (108,000 cigars) was produced with an additional 2,500 4-cigar samplers featuring one of each vitola along with a sampler exclusive petite lancero (6 1/2″ x 40).

Las Calaveras EL 2022 will have a suggested retail price range of $11.95 to $13.95 per cigar, featuring:

  • LC46 (5 3/4″ x 46)
  • LC52 (5″ x 52)
  • LC54 (6 1/2″ x 54)

Las Calaveras EL 2022 is manufactured at My Father Cigars in Esteli, Nicaragua, and will begin shipping July 2022.
