The wait is over! Crowned Heads announced today that the Las Calaveras EL 2019 will be shipping in June. The Las Calaveras Edición Limitada line was first introduced in 2014 as a tribute to those who have passed away in the previous year. It is a celebration of lives and remembrances as opposed to a mournful symbol of sadness and death.
In the past, each year’s Las Calaveras band contained the initials of four different individuals. If you looked close you will see them embossed on the gold coins on the side of the band. The year 2019 will break that tradition and will contain the initials “CO”, which stand for Cano Ozgener the founder of CAO International back in 1968.
Cano was a mentor to Crowned Heads co-founder Jon Huber, and in the press release Jon notes:
“When Cano passed on June 9 of last year, the cigar industry lost a true trailblazer and innovator, and I lost a mentor, friend, and father-figure. He meant so much to us here at Crowned Heads and he touched the lives of far to many to mention. His legacy lives on not only in cigar business, but in the lives of those whom he came in contact with during his lifetime.”
This year will also be the first time since 2014 that the company will use a Habano (Oscuro) wrapper. The full blend is described as:
- Wrapper – Habano (Oscuro)
- Binder – Nicaraguan
- Filler – Nicaraguan
The Las Calaveras EL 2019 is manufactured at My Father Cigars, S.A., in Esteli, Nicaragua. They will be presented in 3 different vitolas and packaged in 24-count boxes:
- LC46 (6 x 46) MSRP $10.50
- LC50 (5 x 50) MSRP $11.75
- LC54 (5.5 x 54) MSRP $12.95
The company also noted that there will be a 4-cigar sampler that will include one each of the 3 vitolas plus a sampler exclusive 6 1/8 x 52 torpedo.
The Las Calaveras EL 2019 is described as a medium to full bodied cigar that exhibits not only intensity and structure, but balance, complexity and finesse, as well.
As with all Las Calaveras releases, the 2019 variety will also be extremely limited, with just 1,700 (24-count) boxes and 2,000 samplers produced. So if you are looking for the Las Calaveras EL 2019, start calling around in June. I do believe these will be readily available at The Underground Cigar Shop and Lounge in Fort Worth, TX – if you can’t find them near you.
