It seems it was just the other day that we heard about this small Texas cigar company, but as they say down there, everything is bigger in Texas, and Providencia Cigars is certainly growing into their boots. The latest announcement comes just 48 hours from the previous one and this time the company has announced a unique blend known as the Meritage.
If you did not know what the word Meritage stands for, you can look it up on Wikipedia like I did and you will learn “it is a name for red and white Bordeaux-style wines without infringing on the Bordeaux (France) region’s legally protected designation of origin.”
Cigars and wine go together well, and Providencia Cigars understands this. Their latest release, the Meritage is the result of just such a marriage. The Company uses a proprietary production process which is explained by Jim Faber, Providencia Cigars founder:
“The production process includes storing the tobacco leaves in a separate humidor in our Danli, Honduras factory. The Meritage blend uses a local Honduran red wine for the aromatic process. The length of time used for the aging process is unspecified.
The resulting sweet floral notes are something quite unique, yet subtle through the smoking experience.”
The Meritage is being billed as an “event cigar” which means it will be available at special Providencia Cigars events. The company also notes it will be available at select retailers in limited quantities
Providencia Cigars describes the Meritage blend as:
- Wrapper -Mexican San Andrés
- Binder – Nicaraguan
- Filler – Nicaraguan
The Meritage is available in a single 5.5 x 52 pressed torpedo. The company has not set a price on this, most probably because it will be an event cigar. The Meritage, like all Providencia cigars, are produced at the La Pequena Vega Cigar Factory in Danli, Honduras.
I had the opportunity to smoke and review a pre-release of the Meritage and found it to be quite a delectable cigar. You can read that review here. I look forward to smoking the released version and see how it compares.
