Cigar News: Serafin de Cuba Cigars Forced to Rebrand Their New El Capitan Brand

Serafin de Cuba Cigars has been forced to rebrand their “El Capitan” cigars. Recently, Serafin de Cuba announced it was making a cigar named “El Capitan” to honor their longtime friend and associate Jose “El Capitan” Gallinat.

Mr. Gallinat served in both the US and Cuban armies, and passed away in 2022.

According to Arnold Serafin,

In March, Serafin was contacted by Villiger and asked to cease and desist since Villiger makes a brand named La Capitana- (which has no correlation whatsoever to the Serafin brand but was unbeknownst to Serafin).

Moving forward now, the Serafin cigar will be released under the Tabacos Serafin TM and named “Reserva 2506” in honor of Mr. Gallinat and his Fellow Cuban Brigade 2506 veterans who fought heroically during the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion.

The cigar is a (7 x 54) torpedo that is made up of a Mexican San Andrés wrapper covering a blend of Nicaraguan tobacco in the binder and filler. It will have an MSRP of $15 each, and there are only 1,000 boxes of 10 being released.

Serafin still plans to debut this release at PCA 2025 in New Orleans later this month.

  • Serafin, has many brands. One of many Cigar makers in the industry with top blends that make a great cigar. In my opinion villager has a cigar called la capitana which has no cimorality to El Capitan. Serafin created this Special Cigar in memory of his long time friend. Regardless if he changes the name his cigar will be a success.
