Back in August of 2020, ADVentura Cigars announced the release of of a two blend line they dubbed “The Royal Return”. The line included the Royal Return Queen’s Pearl and the Kings Gold, the latter being the focus of today’s review. The whole concept of ADVentura Cigars is that of exploration, and in the case of the Royal Return line it tells the story of explorers returning home and bringing gifts to the King and Queen (Gold for the King and Pearls for the Queen).
As for the Kings Gold, it is expressed in 2 vitolas, each packaged in 20-count boxes:

The company describes the blend of the Kings Gold as:
- Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf
- Binder: Mexican San Andres
- Filler: Dominican, American (USA), Nicaragua
For this review, I sampled one of the Kings Gold, which I received at the 2021 TPE for the purpose of reviewing on Stogie Press.
Pre-Light Examination
I really love the construction of the Kings Gold with its dark reddish brown broadleaf wrapper that has a nice marbling throughout. There are just a few veins running through the barrel, The cigar feels solid to the touch and seems to be well packed The wrapper has a mild oily sheen and has a light tooth to the touch. A well applied, flat triple cap, finishes the presentation.
A single band adorns the cigar that uses a gold and black motif and proudly displays the company’s logo. The fun part of this band is that is it not paper but instead is made of metal, yep that’s right – metal.
As I ran the Kings Gold across my nose, I picked up a faint cinnamon and a hint of fruit, while the foot exuded a rich cocoa aroma. I found these aromas to be quite enticing and had me chomping to fire it up , but first I needed to check the cold draw.
I sliced the cap with my Cigar Smoking World Champion cigar knife, straight across the shoulder and proceeded to give it some cold draw puffs. The draw was spot on with restriction and offered notes of spice and cocoa. There seems to be pattern here. I just had to keep cold puffing this delectable morsel as the spice hits the back of the palate and cocoa and nut graced the front. I could keep cold puffing this one, but we need to get into the review.
Using my double flame torch, I warmed the foot that took a little bit to get ignited and drew in the first puffs of naturally sweet tobacco and spice. Follow along as I burn the Kings Gold to ash.
Cigar Review Notes
- Sweetness and spice start the journey
- Light Grey ash develops on a thick wavy char line
- Spice morphs into cinnamon as burns through the first third
- Ash begins to get flaky
- Dry Fruit notes add to the mix
- Continued wave in burn
- Ash fell deep in the first third, revealing a flat centered burn cone
- Cocoa notes appear midway with a core of cinnamon
- Off burn develops but magically found its way without a touch up
- Natural sweetness maintains, deep in the second third
- Earthy notes develop in the final
- Mild to Medium in Strength
- Total Smoking Time was 1 hour and 30 Minutes
Final Analysis
I found the ADVentura Kings Gold robusto to be a mild to medium strength cigar that offered a fairly solid core of Cocoa and Cinnamon notes with varying nuances as it transitioned through the 90 minute journey. The overall flavor profile was not overly complex but the flavors and aroma were enjoyable. The real issue with the Kings Gold is in the construction and resulting burn that was wavy and even off burned along with a consistently flaky ash. From a flavor perspective a seasoned enthusiast might enjoy this and I would suggest at least trying one. I rate this a 89.
