Today I bring a review of another new brand that came across my mailbox recently – Big Boyz Cigar Co. According to the company’s website:

The company sent me samples of their lineup to review on Stogie Press and today I offer a review of the “Luxio”, the first of many I plan on getting to.
The company describes the blend of the Luxio as:
- Wrapper – Cubra
- Binder/Filler – Corojo, HVA, San Andres
The Luxio is expressed in three different vitolas, each packaged in 20-count boxes.
- Robusto – MSRP $11.00
- Short Toro – MSRP $12.00
- Toro – MSRP $13.00
For this review, I sampled one Luxio toro which I received from the company for the purpose of reviewing on Stogie Press.
Pre-Light Examination
The Big Boyz Luxi sports a rugged, dark brown, oily wrapper. The cigar is solid to the touch with firm packing but the packing as viewed from the foot was a a bit off centered from a bunching perspective. The wrapper has a a sight gritty tooth to it and there are some noticeable veins running through the wrapper. A decent cap finishes the presentation.
A single simple band adorns the cigar, using a blue and silver motif and simply identifies it as the “Luxio” and denoting that it is “Hand Made” in the “Dom Rep”.
Running the Luxio along the nose I picked up a pleasant floral aroma while the foot presented butter and spice.
I sliced the cap straight across the shoulder to open it up and gave it some cold draw puffs that I found to be fine with restriction and offered notes of pepper and earthiness.
Using my double flame torch, I warmed the foot to an even orange glow and drew in the first puffs of growing pepperiness. Follow along as I burn the Luxio to ash.
Cigar Review Notes
- Initial draw offers a growing pepper note
- Saltiness adds to the mix
- Light to medium grey ash forms on a thick wavy char line
- Strength begins to grow
- Nutty aroma wafts off the foot
- A touch of sourness hits the tongue
- Naturally sweet tobacco nuances enter but not enough to tone down the sour note
- There is some decent oiling above the burn line
- Nice solid ash fell with a well defined burn cone
- Dark cocoa and espresso coffee transitions into the profile
- Sour notes increase with a growing dryness
- Cedar notes enter midway
- Spice enters and grows and wrapped with natural sweetness
- Continued notes of dark cocoa
- Strength medium to full
- Total Smoking Time was 1 hour and 30 minutes
Final Analysis
The Big Boyz Cigar Co. Luxio was one of those cigars that had a number flavor transitions but I found it was not well balanced. The flavors come and went with perhaps a lingering natural sweetness but the sour and dryness notes that entered here and there, stole from the overall pleasure. I did feel the second half was better than the first half but I had to get through the mish-mash of the first half to get there. Burn wise, it was pretty good with just a mild wave to the line. I rate this an 88.
