Earlier this year, Black Label Trading Co. announced the shipment of their new Intergalactic Event Horizon cigars. It is a limited-edition cigar that was showcased at the InterTabac 2024 trade fair in Dortmund, Germany. This release follows up the 2022 release of the company’s Intergalactic debut. The primary difference between the two is the wrapper, where the company uses a Pennsylvanian Broadleaf wrapper instead of the original Intergalactic Sumatran wrapper.
As part of a press release, James Brown, founder of Black Label Trading Co. noted:
“We are bringing out the dark side of Intergalactic with ‘Event Horizon’. The Event Horizon is wrapped in Pennsylvania Broadleaf which completely changes everything from the original 2022 Sumatra Intergalactic. This cigar is bold with flavors of dark fruits, raisins, earth and star anise. The long finish is a mix of pepper and chili spice followed by a hint of sweetness. The Event Horizon is extremely complex and very well balanced.”
The company describes the blend as:
- Wrapper: Pennsylvania Broadleaf
- Binder: Ecuador Habano
- Filler: Nicaraguan
The INTERGALACTIC Event Horizon is expressed in 3 different vitolas, each packaged in 20-count boxes:
- Robusto (5.5 x 50) – MSRP $11.50
- Toro (6 x 48) – MSRP $12.00
- Petite Corona (4.75×46) – MSRP $11.00
These cigars, like all of the Black Label cigars, are handcrafted at Fábrica Oveja Negra factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
For this review, I sampled 3 of the INTERGALACTIC Event Horizon petite coronas, which I received from the company for the purpose of reviewing on Stogie Press.
Pre-Light Examination
The INTERGALACTIC Event Horizon is draped in a dark brown and toothy wrapper. The wrapper has minimal veins and exhibits a slight oily sheen. Overall, the cigar is well constructed with just the right give from head to foot. It is neatly finished with a pig tail cap and a closed foot.
A single band adorns the cigar. It uses a black, silver, and copper color scheme. The name INTERGALACTIC is printed in the centered using a distressed font and the word Black Works Studio printed below. Off on the right (or the back when the band is on the cigar) there is a skeleton head in a space helmet wrapped in a copper ring with black stars around it.
Running the cigar along the nose I picked up rich barnyard notes along the barrel not much extra off the foot.
I opened the cap by cutting the cigar straight across the shoulder. Giving it some cold draw puffs I was treated to notes of tangy fruit and peppery spice.
Using my Xikar single fan flame torch, I was toasted to foot to an even orange glow and drew in introductory puffs of peppery smoke, especially in the 1st retrohale. Follow along as I burn this one to ash.

The Black Works Studio (BLK WKS) INTERGALACTIC Event Horizon journey begins with a delightful burst of pepper, awakening the senses with its invigorating spice. The smoke is rich and full-bodied, enveloping the palate in thick waves of smoke. As the initial peppery intensity begins to subside, soothing caramel notes emerge, providing a gentle counterbalance. Deep in the first third, rich dark chocolate notes intrigue the palate, inviting deeper exploration. As the journey progresses into the second third, vibrant fruit notes start to evolve, adding layers of complexity. Midway through, rich earthy tones weave into the profile. A mild creamy sweetness enhances the overall pleasure deep in the second third. As the final third approaches, a subtle hint of licorice makes its presence known, adding a captivating twist to this richly nuanced journey. This is a certainly a box buy. I rate this a 95.
