“You May Choose To Look The Otehr Way, But You Can Never Again Say You Did Not Know…
~ William Wilberforce
Wilberforce was a 19th century British politician, philanthropist, and a leader of the movement to abolish the slave trade. Wilberforce was convinced of the importance of religion, morality and education. He championed causes and campaigns such as the Society for the Suppression of Vice, This quote is on every box of Chaffiot Collection See No Evil cigars, which makes sense, as the Justin Chaffiot is adamant about ending human trafficking.
The See No Evil, is the third cigar in the Chaffiot Collection I have had the pleasure to smoke and review. It is available in a single 5 x 54 robusto with an MSRP of $11.00 and can be found on the Privada Cigar Club.
The blend is described as:
- Wrapper: San Andres
- Binder: Nicaraguan
- Filler: Nicaraguan
For this review I sampled two of the See No Evil cigars, which I received as a gift from one of my local cigar BOTLs.
Pre-Light Examination
The Chaffiot Collection See No Evil Robusto is a beautiful cigar that has dark brown and slightly gritty wrapper. There are a few bumps along the barrel. A gentle squeeze along the barrel shows that it is well packed and solid. The cigar is expertly finished with pig tail triple cap.
A single band adorns the cigar that displays a skeleton head with a hand of bones covering its eyes. The phrase “See No Evil” is printed in gold on a blood red banner underneath.
Running the See No Evil along the nose, I picked up a rich earthy barrel while the foot exuded enticing notes of sweet cocoa.
Using my double blade Xikar cutter, I sliced the cap straight across the shoulder and proceeded to give it a few cold draw puffs that I found to be a little more tight than I prefer but offered notes of pepper and savory spice.
A few more cold puffs and it was time to heat this one one up and see where the journey takes me. I used a double flame torch to get it warmed up and drew in the first the puffs of white peppery smoke. Follow along as I burn this one to ash.
Cigar Review Notes
- Initial puffs offered a white pepper sensation especially on the throat
- Tight draw delivers a medium volume of smoke
- Sweet spicy aroma wafts off the foot
- White ash forms on top of a thin and slightly wavy char line
- Savory – meaty notes join the profile near the end of the first third
- Ash fell in a decent chunk revealing a well defined burn cone
- Aroma shifts to a fruity floral note
- Mild citrus notes brighten the profile
- Smoke volume opens up midway
- Slight off burn develops that eventually required a touch up
- Dark chocolate notes develop deep in the second third
- Spice notes add to the mix moving into the final third
- Medium Strength
- Total Smoking Time was 1 hour and 40 minutes
Final Analysis
The Chaffiot Collection See No Evil Robusto had a pleasant profile that was mildly complex with shifting flavors and aromas. The journey started with a dose of white pepper that gently faded and morphed into a savory spice with a meaty background. The draw was tight to start through the midway point offering only a medium volume but once it opened up the notes shifted to floral, fruit and dark chocolate. I feel this would be even better if the draw was as good as the second half. There was an off burn in the second half that required touch up. I rate this an 89.
Point Deductions: (-1) Wavy Burn;; (-1) Off Burn; (-1) Touch-up required; (-1) Tight Draw – Medium volume of smoke; (-1) May Try One Again
