Earlier in 2025, Cohiba Cigars added a wallet friendly cigar as a full time addition to its portfolio. The company noted that it is a deliberate evolution of the brand’s renowned blending philosophy. Known as the Rubicon, it is built from six distinct tobaccos sourced from five of the world’s most respected growing regions and Handcrafted at the respected HATSA factory in Danlí, Honduras.

The blend is described as:
- Wrapper – Ecuadorian Habano
- Binder – U.S. Broadleaf
- Filler – Dominican Piloto, Honduran tobaccos from La Entrada and Jamastran, and Nicaraguan Estelí
Sean Williams, Cohiba Brand Ambassador notes:
“Rubicon gave us the opportunity to offer a cigar without boundaries. The blend was thoughtfully created with intention. The result is a cigar that bridges tradition with a more modern expression of complexity. It rewards a practiced palate while remaining accessible to emerging enthusiasts.”
The Cohiba Rubicon shipped to retailers in August 2025. Each box contains 20 cigars, available in three vitolas:
- Box-Pressed Robusto (5.5 x 55) – MSRP $8.49
- Toro (6 x 54) – MSRP $8.99
- Gigante (6 x 60) – MSRP $9.49
For this review, I sampled 3 of the Cohiba Rubicon Robustos I received from the company for thr purpose of reviewing on Stogie Press.
Pre-Light Examination
First setting my eyes on the Cohiba Rubicon, I noted it was a well constructed box press robusto. It highlights a beautiful reddish brown and silky smooth wrapper. The wrapper exhibits a slight oily sheen. The box pressing is crisp and there are practically no veins. The packing and roll is excellent.

A single band adorns the cigar. It uses an orange, black, white, and silver motif that boldly declares this as a COHIBA Red Dot product. The name RUBICON is printer a bit lower in the center using silver ink. The silver bars that run across the center is actually holographic ink and when examined more carefully define this as a product of the “REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS”. A fine adornment for an $8.50 cigar.

Running the Rubicon across the nose, I picked up a nice sweet curing barn aroma off the wrapper while the foot exudes light pepper, and faint vanilla cream.
Cold draw was properly restricted with notes of dried fruit, sweet cedar, and a touch of baking grain. The more you cold draw the cigar, a touch of peppery notes gently add to the pre-light profile.
I used my dual flame torch to warm the foot to an even orange glow and drew in the first puffs of sweet and spicy smoke to begin the journey. Follow along as I burn this one to ash.
Cigar Review Notes

- A refined black pepper settles in early but never overwhelms
- Ash dropped in a decent chunk revealing a well formed burn cone
- Deep in the first third, tangy dried fruit and light creaminess weave into the profile
- Moving into the second third, mocha cream, mild cedar, and natural sweetness begin to play in harmony
- The retrohale in the second third reveals cocoa, a touch of toast, and a more prominent warm spice
- Midway, a wave of fruity nuance—red berries adds dimension to profile along with a mild black tea note
- The smoke remains cool and elegant, with the strength gradually moving toward a confident medium-plus.
- Dark chocolate, espresso, and cedar spice take the lead moving into the final third
- Deep in the final there is a pleasant roasted nut essence along with a fusion of cocoa, cedar and spice

- Total Smoking Time was 1 hour and 30 minutes
Final Analysis

The Cohiba Rubicon Robusto is a refined, meticulously constructed cigar that delivers a sophisticated, evolving profile. Its highlights are the smooth transitions, fragrant pre-light bouquet, and a flavor arc that builds from gentle sweetness and cedar into mocha, cocoa, berry, and finally espresso and spice. Damn good for $8.50/cigar.
The craftsmanship, burn quality, and flavor development fit well for those enthusiasts who value nuance, aromatic depth, and a polished smoking experience. Those seeking bold power may find it restrained, but smokers who appreciate finesse and controlled evolution will find the Rubicon Robusto a standout in the modern Cohiba portfolio.
