Cigar Review: Falto Cigars Invicto – Rated 94

Today I would like to offer my take on one of the many cigars offered by Falto Cigars and owner Luis Falto. This time it is the Falto Invicto – a cigar that has been on the market for well over a decade. As with all all Falto cigars, Luis made the decision when he founded his company, 25 plus years ago, to only make one vitola per blend and in the case of the Invicto it is expressed in a (6 ¼ x 52) Belicoso.

The Falto Invicto is a Dominican Puro meaning all components (wrapper, binder, filler) are grown and aged in the Dominican Republic. Like all Falto cigars, the Invicto is hand crafted at the La Aurora factory in the Dominican Republic. It comes packaged in 26-count boxes with an MSRP of $8.00/cigar.

Pre-Light Examination

The Falto Invicto is a silky smooth well constructed belicoso that has a dark tan wrapper that sports a nice oily sheen. There a just a few veins that run along the barrel and it is solidly packed. The cigar is capped with well applied pencil point tip.

A single band adorns the cigar that proudly displays the Falto Cigars logo in the center and the name “INVICTO” below. The name Invitco translates to ‘Unbeaten’ in English. It should also be noted that the band on this is different than the original which used two bands.

Running the Falto Invicto along the nose I picked up a sweet baking spice note along the barrel and slightly pungent note off the foot.

I sampled three of these for the review and cut each of them like I do all vitolas like this – 45 degree angle. Once cut I gave the cigar some cold draw puffs that I found to be spot on with the draw and offered a pepper note on the front and light sweetness in the background.

With the pre-light much to my liking, I used my double flame torch to warm the foot, bringing it to an even orange glow and drew in the first array of satisfying notes. Follow along as I burn the Falto Invicto to ash.

Final Analysis

I found the Falto Cigars Invicto to be an elegant smoking experience, starting with its initial puffs that fired up my palate through the long journey of flavor and aroma. I especially enjoyed the early introduction of what I would describe as a rich cedar core that stayed with cigar through a good 2/3 of the burn. Nuances of spice, cocoa, nut, and caramel just added to the pleasure of this well burning vitola. From a construction perspective, there was just a mild wave in the burn and flat burn cone once the long ash fell. I find this to be a box worthy cigar and rate it a 94.

Point Deductions: (-1) Flat Burn Cone; (-1) Mild Wave in Burn

Bonus Points: (+1) Box Worthy; (+1) Long Ash
