Back in 2018, when Ryan Frank Rodriquez formed the Left Hand Cigar Co. they introduced a cigar known as the Blurred Lines. Now in 2025, they have tweaked the blend and will be showcasing the new Blurred Lines at this years PCA Trade Show in New Orleans.
The main difference between the original and the 2025 version is the substitution of Ometepe tobacco in the filler with Somoto tobacco which imparts rather unique notes. The Somoto leaf is a rarer tobacco varietal that is grown close to the border of Honduras about 55 miles northwest of Estelí. The leaf is found in some Rojas and E.P. Carrillo cigars.

Ryan explained:
“I was going for some flavor notes that I have never tasted. There is 3 types of somoto in there. The original had ometepe. Everyone uses ometepe. So I found what I havent tasted, which was the somoto. I think it tastes kinda like molasses. But it’s changes, the somoto is a creeper tobacco that creeps up on you.”
Expressed in a single (6 x 56) behike vitola, the Left Hand Blurred Lines has a blend described as:
- Wrapper: Connecticut/Habano
- Binder/ Filler: Nicaraguan (Condega, Jalapa and Somoto)
The production for the first run is limited to 150 boxes of 20, but the company notes it will be a core line going forward. Each box will be numbered and signed.
Ryan noted:
“I came up with blurred lines because it is a barberpole, and because it’s under Lefthand Cigars, and being lefthanded I’ve always struggled with blurred lines because I drag my hand when I write.”
For an added effect, the bands are printed in a 3D print and a pair of 3D glasses will be included in each box so that when you view the bands, they will pop out at you.
The MSRP has been set at between $17-$18. They will go on sale at PCA. Following PCA there will be a launch with whatever is left after the show in NOLA.
For this review I sampled 4 of the Blurred Lines which I received from the company for the purpose of reviewing on Stogie Press.
Pre-Light Examination
The Left Hand Cigars Blurred Lines is a beautifully constructed barber pole cigar with its contrasting leaf color. The cigar is well packed, firm to the touch, and heavy in the hand. The wrappers have a slight oily sheen and are silky smooth. Barely a vein to be seen. An expertly applied pig tail cap finishes the construction.

Two bands adorn the cigar. As noted, the bands are printed in 3D and when using 3D glasses, they will pop, but I don’t have the glasses but sure look forward to checking it out when I do. The Primary band displays the Left Hand Cigar logo (two skeleton hands forming an L and H). A secondary band is placed just below the primary and declares the cigar as the BLURRED LINES, also using a 3D image.

Running the barrel along the nose, I picked up a mild barnyard note while the foot offers rich walnut note.
I sliced the cap straight across the shoulder of the cigar and gave it some cold draws that offered a mild nut and cream and an exotic savory spice I can’t place.
I fired up the Blurred Lines by gently warming the foot with my dual flame torch lighter, bringing it to an even orange glow. The first draws tantalized the palate with notes of Molasses sweetness and peppery spice. Follow along as I burn this one to ash.

Final Analysis

The Left Hand Cigar Blurred Lines was certainly an elegant smoke with a well-balanced profile of flavors, nuances and aromas. The addition of the Somoto leaf in the filler added a pleasurable molasses sweetness to the profile right form the early draw. Peppery spice, cream and cocoa filled in the first third all delivered through a smooth draw and pristine burn. As the journey continued, the habano leaf in the wrapper grew oilier and the cigar imparted pleasurable notes of nutmeg and cinnamon spice. The ash held solid and dropped in decent chunks though the journey. The cinnamon increases deeper in the burn and the continued sweetness wraps it along the way. This is most certainly an elegant cigar that I feel is worthy of a box buy. I rate this a solid 97.
