Cigar Review: LFD Suave Grand Maduro No. 6 (BP Torpedo) – Rated 95

It has been over 30 years since Litto Gomez founded La Flor Dominicana in 1994. I can honestly say, both Litto and I were young men back in the 20th century and some of you reading this may have been infants or not even born yet. But time does fly by and with that time came many new blends and vitolas from Litto and his award winning factory.

Going back to 1994, when the industry was going through one of its biggest booms, Litto introduced his first blend to the market. It was called the premium line, a mild and pleasant smoke that I would say could be enjoyed any time of the day. That cigar soon became known as the Suave. Of course, if you are an LFD fan, you might know the brand for more higher strength cigars over the years. I suppose Litto knows that too and at the 2025 PCA the company introduced the return of the Suave but with a twist.

The reimagined 2025 Suave comes in two different blends:

  • Suave Natural that uses a Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper with a Mexican San Andres Negra binder and Dominican fillers from the company’s La Canela farm
  • Suave Grand Maduro that utilizes a Mexican San Andres wrapper with a Nicaraguan Binder and Dominican fillers.

As we are focused on the LFD Suave Grand Maduro for this review, I should note the blend is expressed in 2 different vitolas, each packaged in 20-count boxes:

  • No. 5 (6 1/4 x 52) – MSRP $11.80
  • No. 6 (5 ¾ x 54 BP Torpedo) – MSRP $12.80

For this review, I sampled two of the LFD Suave Grand Maduro No. 6 box pressed torpedoes which I purchased from Maxi’s Cigar Lounge in Franklin Square, NY during a visit to to Long Island last month or so ago.

Pre-Light Examination

The LFD Suave Grand Maduro No. 6 is draped with a smooth, reddish-brown wrapper that is smooth to the touch and exhibits a light oily sheen. It is pretty much devoid of veins and bumps and the box pressing is crisp. The cigar is well packed with no soft spots detected. A excellent torpedo cap finishes the construction.

A single red and gold band, that is simple in design, displays the LFD logo on top and the word “SUAVE” on the bottom. It also includes a silhouette of horse (one of Litto’s other loves). It notes that the brand has been around “Since 1994”. The Name La Flor Dominicana is printed on the right side of the band.

Running the cigar along the nose, I picked up little off the barrel but the foot offered a inviting raisin bread notes.

I sliced the torpedo cap about a 1/4 inch down from the tip and gave it some cold draw puffs. I found the draw to be smooth and nicely restricted while offering growing peppery spice and bready notes.

Using my single flame torch lighter, I warmed the foot to an even orange glow and drew in the first puffs of mild pepper notes to start the journey. Follow along as I burn this one to ash.

Final Analysis

The LFD Suave Grand Maduro No. 6 delivers a refined and balanced experience, built on layers of sweetness, fruit, and spice that evolve naturally with each transition. The early interplay of red currant and pepper sets an engaging tone, while the midsection’s raisin, citrus, and caramel elements create an elegant progression of flavor.

The construction is top-tier, with a firm ash, strong burn line, and effortless draw throughout most of the journey. Even with a slightly jagged finish, performance remained consistent and the flavor held true.

Medium in strength and body, this cigar is ideal for those who enjoy a smoke that balances sweet and savory complexity without overpowering the palate. It’s nuanced, clean, and pleasantly aromatic — a great companion to a late morning coffee or afternoon pour.

Point Deductions: (-1) Jagged burn in Final

Bonus Points: (+1) Extreme Ash; (+1) Pleasant profile with a well rounded finish
