Cigar Review: Lure Cigars Tally Allie Toro – Rated 94

Early in 2024, Lure Cigars, a small, premium cigar company based out Tallahassee, Florida that believes in Smoking Great Cigars and Telling Tall Tales, released to the wild two Habano blends. Known as the Tally Allie and the Holy Colie they were both Nicaraguan puros. The main difference between the two is one leaf in the filler. The Tally Allie uses Condega tobaccos in the filler while the Holy Colie swaps the Condega for the Ometepe tobaccos. Additionally, the company closed out 2024 with two more Habano blends, the Mean Jean and the Jolly Walleye.

Today, I would like to docus on the Lure Cigars Tally Allie which is expressed in a (6 x 52) toro and comes packaged in 10-count sealed wax packs, wrapped in heavyweight craft stock. The MSRP is set at $12.00/cigar. The cigar is handcrafted at Tabacalera Pages in Nicaragua.

The full blend of the Tally Allie is described as:

  • Wrapper – Nicaraguan Habano Natural
  • Binder – Nicaraguan (Estelí)
  • Filler – Nicaraguan (Estelí, Jalapa, Condega)

The company notes:

“These Habano blends were chosen for their familiar, yet delicious flavor profile, offering notes of new leather, fresh-roasted coffee, baking spices, and hints of cedar. The wrapper tobaccos were also selected for their attractive chestnut brown hue. Our cigars are handcrafted to the highest quality standards and are designed to be enjoyed by all cigar enthusiasts – from the most experienced and discerning cigar geeks to those just starting to smoke cigars.

The Habano is a medium-bodied, everyday smoke that you will want to include in your regular rotation and can be enjoyed at any time of day.”

So, let’s get into the review of the Lure Cigars Tally Allie which I received from the company for the purpose of reviewing on Stogie Press.

Pre-Light Examination

The Lure Cigars Tally Allie is a beautiful looking cigar with a fine oily sheen over its dark tan wrapper. This is one cigar where I would like to point out the excellent vein structure in the wrapper. The packing is full and offers just the right give when pressed gently between the fingers. A well applied cap finishes the construction.

A single band adorns the cigar, using a colorful presentation of the company’s logo, a yellow fishing lure on a green background and the bold presentation of the company name LURE CIGARS. I like how the band pops on the background of the habano wrapper.

Running the Tallie Alie along the nose, I picked up rich barnyard aromatics coming off the barrel while the foot offered notes of sweetness, nut, and a sprinkle of spice.

I sliced the cap straight across the shoulder of the cigar and gave it some cold draw puffs that I found to be was spot on with restriction as each cold puff added to the pre-light experience with growing peppery spice notes especially on the lips. A touch of buttery cracker rests in the background.

Using my Xikar Fan Flame torch, I warmed to foot to an even orange glow as I drew in the first puffs of peppery smoke to start the journey. Follow along as I burn the Tally Allie to ash.

Final Analysis

The initial puffs of the Lure Cigars Tally Allie Toro deliver an immediate, cinnamon spice that envelops the palate with a sharp yet graceful sting. Each draw fills the mouth with thick, luxurious smoke. A rich, creamy note gradually enters, seamlessly blending with the pepper to create a smooth balance. As the profile develops, hints of fruit and dry cocoa enhance the complexity, weaving together a more complete and harmonious flavor. Sweet, nutty aromas rise from the foot, adding an inviting layer to the experience. The first retrohale heightens the fruit and pepper nuances, deepening the sensory experience. By the time the cigar reaches the end of the first third, it transforms into a sweet and savory profile, with cocoa coating the palate between each puff. As the cigar progresses into the second third, spice notes become the dominant flavor, grounding the profile. The early nutty undertones continue to evolve, growing richer as the final third approaches, accompanied by a subtle touch of earthiness and cream that lingers until the end. Buy a bundle of these. I rate this a solid 94.
