The little cigar company that could keeps doing what they do best, cranking out some fine cigars. One of their most recent releases is known as the Funday Sunday We all know what Sunday Funday is- the day we get most inebriated because we have to face another Manic Monday.
That got me thinking, is Team Providencia – fans of the Bangles? I mean they have done a number of 1980’s throwback names for their latest cigars.
The Bangles sing in that song the lyrics:
“It’s just another manic Monday (Woah, woah)
The Bangles – Manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday (Woah, woah)
‘Cause that’s my fun day (Woah, woah, woah, woah)…”
But then there is the Canadian Reggae Pop band MAGIC! – oh yea another “magic” reference to a cigar in 2021. They produced a non-album single in 2015 titled #SundayFunday with lyrics that stated:
“Another manic Monday,
Praying for the week to go by
While Jimmy’s at the golf course
Smoking on a Cuban Delight
Now money, money, we all got to make it, yeah
But right now, I could use a vacationI wish it was Sunday, Sunday funday
MAGIC! – #SundayFunday
A Monday-to-Monday Sunday funday
I wish it was Sunday, Sunday funday
A Monday-to-Monday Sunday funday
Sunday funday…”
I love the refence to the boss “Smoking on a Cuban Delight” … By The way, here is the YouTube for that song:
Let’s Talk About the Cigar Now
The Providencia Cigars Funday Sunday is one of a number of limited releases from the company and comes in a single 6 x 52 Box Pressed Toro that carries an MSRP of $9.99/cigar.
The company describes the blend as:
- Wrapper – Habano
- Binder – Nicaraguan
- Filler – Nicaraguan (Ometepe)
Pre-Light Examination
The Providencia Cigars Funday Sunday is a reddish brown, mildly rugged looking box pressed cigar. The pressing is rounded on the edges and the wrapper is smooth yet mildly bumpy in spots. A gentle press, between the fingers, along the barrel, shows that it is decently packed. A well applied cap and a closed foot finishes the presentation.
A single, playfully colorful band adorns the cigar using a psychedelic purple design with the company logo centered at the top and the name Sunday Funday on the bottom.
Running the Funday Sunday along the nose I detected notes of earth and citrus off the foot but not much along the barrel.
I used my double blade cutter to slice the cap straight across the shoulder and proceeded to give it some cold draw puffs that I found to be a tad open in the draw while delivering a peppery tingle along with a growing pungent fermented leaf note.
Using my double flame torch, I warmed the foot to an even orange glow. The closed foot took well to the flame and offered a heavy pepper spice to start, especially on the retro-hale. Follow along as I burn the Providencia Cigars Funday Sunday to ash.

- Off burn develops deep in the burn
- Spice and citrus continue to the end

Final Analysis
The Providencia Cigars Funday Sunday was a pleasant, mildly complex and balanced cigar that started with a rich peppery burst and eased into a citrusy and naturally sweet journey. I especially enjoyed the nuances of cocoa, nut, and nougat midway in the burn. It did develop a slight off burn in the final third. This is one I would suggest buying a five pack of and enjoy them on a Sunday afternoon. I rate this a 90.
