At this years IPCPR, Epic Cigars was displaying and telling the story of their new release – the Smoking Shields cigar. Released in November of 2016, the Smoking Shields was a cigar created for the charity organization by the same name, The Smoking Shields Cigar Club, Corp.
The organization was established in 2015 with a mission
“to address the lack of a fraternal organization of law enforcement professionals who shared their passion of enjoying premium cigars and a desire to help our nation’s heroes.”
With current chapters in NY, MD, NJ, and FL, the organization provides financial assistance to Law Enforcement professionals and our nation’s military and their immediate families nationwide and includes all areas of Law Enforcement including representation from Federal, State, County, City, and Town / Village agencies .
Talking to Dean Parsons he explained how Epic Cigars was originally planned for only 1,000 cigars, consisting of 100, ten-count boxes. Since the initial run they decided to expand production to 1,000 boxes and will be distributing these not only in the US but also in Canada and Germany where Epic cigars has a built a following.
The Smoking Shields is available in one 6 x 54 vitola, with an MSRP of $15.00. The blend is described as:
- Wrapper – Brazilian Arapiraca
- Binder – Dominican
- Filler – Dominican and Nicaragua
A percentage of proceeds from the sale of these cigars are being donated to the Smoking Shields Cigar Club.
I did receive a sample of the new Smoking Shield Cigar at the show. Dean and Mick suggested I just smoke and enjoy it, which is exactly what I did that night as I was playing some slots in the casino. I was not thinking much about reviewing it so I have no photos to show, but I will say it was a bold and richly robust cigar that had initial flavors of espresso that delighted the palate and offered notes of fruit, cedar, and nut. The burn was excellent and it finished as a medium to full strength cigar. I will have to get another to do a more formal review.
