Founded in 2010 by Dean Parsons, Epic cigars has developed and produced some fine cigars ever since. This year is no exception as they announced some new lines at this years IPCPR. These introductions included the La Rubia, Maduro Fuerte, and the Project E San Andres which is the topic of today’s review.
I met Dean at this years show and we spent some time discussing his blends. Dean was particular proud of the new Project E San Andres which he said represents Epic Cigars commitment to providing both flavor and innovation.
Available in only one vitola, the 6.5 x 54 Gran Ola. The Project E San Andres is a limited production cigar that is unique – with a band that is actually a piece of tobacco leaf, die cut, with the Epic “E” in the center.
As Dean says:
“No need to remove the band, just focus on enjoying the amazing flavor!”
And that is exactly what I was about to do.
Cigar Review Notes
-
- Gritty San Andres wrapper with a bit of sheen
- Twisted finish cap
- Crisp chocolate aroma on the foot
- Light sweet hay and spice along the barrel
-
- Cold draw delivers just a tinge of pepper wrapped in earth
-
- Initial light delivers a nasal burn that lasts a good 1/4 inch
-
- Quickly wafting a fruit aroma
-
- Bit of a tang coming in tickling the palate
-
- Dry toast notes enter
-
- The toast starts to butter up
-
- Nice draw with a medium to full smoke body
-
- Delectable aroma
-
- Fruit joins the buttered toast in flavor – all I need is my eggs and bacon!
-
- Salt and pepper ash with a thick char line
-
- Some cocoa entering
-
- Outstanding burn and ash
-
- Touch of coffee enters blending well with the now present cocoa
-
- This is like a morning Cafe Mocha!
-
- Spice starts to build on top of a sour cherry note
-
- Aroma shifted to a roasted nut
-
- Cherry starts to sweeten
- Spice intensifies in final third
Overall the Epic Cigars Project E San Andres is truly a delectable cigar with a complex set of flavors and incredible burn. I certainly would like to try this again with that morning Cafe Mocha. It would also be interesting to see if the smoke through leaf band has any impact in the flavor notes.
