Ezra Zion All My EX’s – Robusto Cigar Review

Ezra Zion All My EX's

Ezra Zion All My EX’s

The latest creation for Ezra Zion Cigar Company is named All My EX’s and was introduced at the 83rd Annual IPCPR show in New Orleans. In their press release, Ezra Zion stated:

“We are constantly trying to challenge ourselves in our blending. The next cigar has to be better than the last.” said co-owner Kyle Hoover. “All My EX’s is a blend that we’ve been working on for over a year to perfect.”

All My EX’s is produced in Tabacalera Aromas de Jalapa factory, owned by close friend Noel Rojas.

“When I tried the Ezra Zion All My EX’s blend I told Chris and Kyle, ‘This is the best cigar I’ve ever made in this factory’.” noted Rojas.

One look at this cigar and you want to enjoy it, a medium brown silky Ecuadorian Habano wrapper encases a blend of Nicaragua Corojo and Nicaraguan Criollo fillers while the binder is not disclosed. It is adorned with the Ezra Zion Cigar logo with phrase All My Ex’s on the side.

All My Ex’s are available in three vitolas:

  • Robusto – 5 x 50
  • Toro – 6 x 52
  • Lancero – 7 x 42

The are a limited release of 800 – 25 count boxes. The boxes are cabinet style boxes made of raw wood.

For this review I sampled the Robusto vitola which was provided to me by Ezra Zion at this years IPCPR.

It was a long day of work on the road and after visiting some friends up in the Detroit area, I settled down outside my hotel to enjoy All My EX’s. Funny thing about this particular hotel, there are signs all over the building that Cigar Smoking is Prohibited anywhere on the property. Well if a patron can smoke cigarettes I certainly feel I can sit in solitude on a cool summer night and enjoy a delightful aromatic cigar. I never did understand such rules about cigar smoking.

After clipping the cap I leaned back and took in the dry draw flavor of earthy notes as I rolled it about my lips feeling the silky wrapper leaf. The foot had a nice floral scent to it before firing it up.

I toasted it up with a simple Bic Lighter as I can not travel with my torch. Gently toasting the foot and taking a few initial puffs I am greeted with a mix of floral and a big smack of pepper.  The draw is wonderful as an enticing floral aroma develops and fills the summer air around me. Who could complain about that smell. Another hotel patron comes out to fire up a cigarette and walks around getting his fix quickly before going back in. that is the difference between cigar smokers and cigarette addicts. We relax and enjoy the hour plus time to enjoy our smokes.

The pepper settles down quickly after about a 1/4 of an inch of burn. The ash is a slightly toothy grey color.  The floral notes shift to a nutty and molasses flavor and the smoke is now smooth on the palate and retro-hale. The ash held on tight through the first third before falling along a perfect burn line.

As it moves through the second third a coffee bean flavor develops as the molasses continues to waft off the foot.

The end of the second 3rd offers a hint of dried fruit with a long finish of leather.  The pepper reemerged in the final third and the aroma shifted to more of an earthy almost tar-like scent. The ash held tight after making its first fall and earns a place on our best ash page. If you like looking for patterns in images check out the facial images in the ash. I detected three and a Facebook friend said he saw Bart Simpson in it.

All My Ex’s is a very well constructed, medium to full strength cigar, with a delectable flavor profile that would pair very well with a Highland Malt Scotch.
