Sam Leccia is back,  and this time is he as naked as can be. His latest creation is known as the Leccia Tobacco Desnudo which means Naked. For those that may not know, a naked cigar is one with no bands on it. According to Sam, “I went with the name Desnudo the Spanish word for naked, because I thought the cigar was just beautiful, and didn’t need a band.” After seeing these on his Facebook page I decided to help a brother out and get me some Desnudos. I ordered some 5 x 54 vitolas and they arrived beautifully packaged in a small wicker box just as advertised.

I contacted Sam and he told me:

“The cigar has a very raw look, yet is refined in a way I can’t explain. I am super happy with how the blend turned out and I believe the packaging only reflects that.

The cigars are not limited per say, but the cigars are (sometimes) rolled by me, and they are always boxed, packaged and shipped by myself (and my kids when they want to earn a little money). It doesn’t get more boutique than Desnudo.”

• Pre-light aroma –  nut and earth
• Dark brown slightly glistening wrapper with black and brown marbling 
• Short pig tail finish
• Went old school and bit the head off
• Peppery cold draw
• No restriction
• Pepper right off the light
• Immense smoke production
• Some floral behind the pepper
• Smoke is creamy and full
• White ash develops
• Cooking spice aroma develops
• Buttery popcorn enters after an inch along with some meat
• Bitter sweet cocoa enters in the second third with a slight ginger tang
• Well centered burn cone
• A touch of vanilla finds it way in mid second third
• Nice thin char line razor-sharp
• Still firm to the touch through the second third
• Just oodles of smoke
• The final third brings in spice and cedar with a citrus tang

I have smoked a few of these since and I find it pairs very well with a Bombay Blue Sapphire martini, enhancing the floral notes.
