It has been some time since I’ve been in the Motor City – Detroit Michigan, let alone in Livonia, MI. I really think it has been two years and a few feet of snow ago. Well I was lucky to find my way back up to Livonia for work this week and that means long days and evenings with colleagues solving big time engineering problems. With the need to get up early in the AM, I don’t have the luxury of driving 30 minutes or more to some of my favorite local shops so I hit the old Google button and bam, a new shop popped up – Livonia Cigar Bar, just 1.8 miles from my hotel! This lounge is part of the local Smoky’s Lounge chain, here in the area, and it is open till at least 11 PM during the week.
It took me a nanosecond to decide, and after parting with my colleagues I dropped into the lounge. I have to say, I like the location, close to all the hotels and businesses just off I-275.

I entered the lounge and the first observation was the size. It is not huge but you are greeted with a comfortable seating area with a brown leather couch and high top table surrounded by accessories As you walk past the counter, you come across the walk in humidor that is lined with Spanish cedar (oh how I love that smell) and properly humidified. The humidor has a fine selection of cigar brands that should please most any palate. It is filled with both big names to boutiques and for tonight’s selection I chose the Room 101 Hit and Run – a 2017 Stogie Press Top 25 cigar.
After making my selection I walked over the medium size bar that seats about 8 – 10 patrons. In front of the bar area is another comfortable seating area that is also decked out with the leather chairs and a couch, there is also a nice seating area to the side of the bar. The Livonia Cigar Bar has are four flat screens TVs, 2 above the bar and 2 in the seating area. As far as beverages, they have a full selection of spirits including a wide choice of bourbon and scotch and a decent wine list.
The owner, Theresa greeted me with a smile and when I asked for a red wine she cheerfully suggested the Conundrum by Caymus Red Blend to try. It paired nicely with my Room 101 Hit and Run with its hint of cocoa and fruit notes.
Theresa and I got to talking and we realized that it had been about 4 years since we last met back when my wife and I were up in this neck of the woods. She reminded me the shop used to be located in the next town over but this new location, which has been here for about a year, turned out to be a far better setting for a cigar lounge.
