IPCPR/PCA News: MBombay Cigars

At this years Premium Cigar Association (PCA) trade show, formerly known as the IPCPR, Mel Shah of MBombay showcased two new introductions:

  • M.Esteli
  • MQBA MAYURA

The M.Esteli

The M.Esteli features a a bold and flavorful blend of aged tobaccos including a Habano 2000 leaf grown on the company’s farm in Ventana, Ecuador.

This is the same farm as the leaf grown for the company’s highly rated MQBA.

  • Wrapper – Ecuadorian Habano 2000
  • Binder – Dominican Republic
  • Filler –
    • Nicaraguan HVA
    • Nicaraguan Pelo de Oro
    • Dominican Piloto Cubano

This is the first time, the company has used a predominance of Nicaraguan tobacco in a blend. Mel Shah told me that the leaf used in this blend has been aged between 3 and 4 years. Like all MBombay cigars, the M.Esteli cigars are meticulously hand rolled at Tobaccos de Costa Rica.

The company describes the M.Esteli as a cigar that leans towards full body in the nicotine aspect that balances well with flavor and a touch more on the spicy side of the spectrum.

The Bombay Tobak/MBombay M.Esteli will be a core product line for the company and are expressed in 3 popular vitolas:

  • Robusto (5 x 54) MSRP $6.95
  • Toro (6 x 54) MSRP $7.95
  • Torpedo (6 x 54) MSRP $7.95

The M.Esteli are some of the most value priced cigars offered by MBombay.

The MQBA MAYURA

Last year, Bombay Tobak introduced a line of cigars known as the MQBA. This year Mel Shah, company owner, has decided to add to the line this year with the introduction of the MQBA MAYURA – pronounced (ma-yoo-ra). The name means “peacock” in Sanskrit language, which the company has embraced as “grace”.

Bombay Tobak is celebrating five years in the cigar business and accroding to Mel Shah:

To celebrate our five years in this beautiful cigar industry, we wanted it to be memorable.

The MQBA MAYURA uses vintage tobaccos from Paraguay, Peru & Nicaragua that have been perfectly blended with an HVA wrapper from their farm in Ecuador.

The MQBA MAYURA will be expressed in 2 vitolas and will come encased in individual glass tubes packed in 24-count boxes.

  • Toro – (6 x 52)
  • Robusto – (5 x 54)

Pricing has been set around $26.00 to $27.00 USD

Mel also noted that the company will be extending the line to a Lonsdale Corona and Torpedo next year. Production for the initial phase has been limited to 25,000 of each vitola. A full line of sizes has been in the production schedule and release.
