For this review I sampled the Victor Calvo Fuerte F1
Cigar Review Notes
- Dark brown marbled wrapper
- Nice shine to the cigar
- Solid to the touch with some noticeable veins
- Spice aroma along the barrel
- Tea and burnt oak on foot
- Cold draw offered licorice, butter, and salt
- It has a perfect draw
- I opened the cap with a punch
- Once ignited, the palate is treated to notes of Espresso with a light pepper on the nasal
- Full body of smoke – thick and dense
- A caramel sweetness enters after a half-inch into the burn
- The ash is medium grey with a medium char line
- Well entered burn cone once the ash is tapped
- Licorice finally finds its way in after just after the first inch
- Caramel shifts to a syrupy sweetness
- Oily wrapper
- Savory meat notes enter start of second third
- Sweet currant note enters – like a sauce on top of the meat
- Espresso appears again midway through the second third
- Spicy aroma
- Licorice is dancing about as a nut enters
- Hint of vanilla in final third
- Total smoking time was 1 hour
Overall, the Victor Calvo Fuerte lives up to the company’s description. It is truly a bold and spicy cigar, with lots of flavor transitions. It was a medium to full strength cigar, that I can highly recommend. I think this would pair well with a fine small batch bourbon to bring out the syrupy sweetness.
