Today we offer the Stogie Press Rough Cut cigar review notes on the Villiger San’Doro Colorado. I received samples of this cigar from Villiger Cigars North America, Inc. I would like to thank them for the samples.
The Villiger San’Doro line was introduced at the 2015 IPCPR and included three blends; Brazilian Puro Maduro, Claro and Colorado. Unlike the Maduro which we reviewed early this year, the Claro and Colorado are made by the Oliva cigar company at their TABOLISA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
The Villiger San’Doro Colorado is available in 3 vitolas:
- Robusto – 5 x 50
- Toro – 6 x 50
- Churchill – 7 x 50
The Villiger San’Doro Colorado blend is:
- Wrapper:Ecuadorian habano
- Binder: Nicaraguan
- Filler: Nicaraguan
For this review I sampled the Toro.
Cigar Review Notes
- Velvet feel – Firm to the touch
- Touch of red color o the wrapper
- Tea and sweet hay aroma on the foot
- Cold draw – musty and peppery with a faint chocolate background
- Gentle restriction
- Once ignited a spice and pepper burn greet the palate
- Retro-hale is not too harsh
- A cocoa aroma starts to evolve
- The spice runs through the center of the profile
- Pepper begins to fade giving way to a buttery citrus note in the background
- Restriction is perfect, providing a decent burn and medium char line
- Smoke is medium in body and creamy on the palate
- Medium grey ash falls around an inch of burn – reveals a decent burn cone
- Citrus is dying down by end of the first third
- Cedar and coffee develop, evolving from a bitter to sweet
- A decent amount of sweetness is coming in at second half
- Floral aroma at this point
- The cedar starts to take front and center
- Wafting chocolate aroma into the second third
- Burn is near perfect, with a now thin char line
- Spice adds to the cedar and builds through the second third
- A background of cocoa begins to show
- Well blended flavor as it moves though the final third
- Aroma shifts to more of a molasses note
- Full smoke production
- Solid medium strength
