Espinosa
Kaboom!!
Erik Espinosa does it again, This time it is the limited edition 601 La Bomba Warhead II, a followup to the original 601 La Bomba. This new edition is of limited supply and I found some at my local brick and mortar. It is nice to have at least one store in your town that caters to the boutique lines. Paradise Cigarz in Rockledge FL is the place to go for those hard to find sticks. I am glad I found this and decided to enjoy it after a homemade steak dinner.
The 601 La Bomba Warhead II comes in only size 5.5 x 56 box pressed and there are only 2000 boxes of 10 out there. Erik Espinosa wanted to follow-up the original 601 La Bomba but couldn’t find the same tobaccos so the blend is slightly tweaked for this new introduction. The flavor was intended to be similar.
The 601 La Bomba Warhead II is constructed from:
- Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro
- Binder: Nicaragua
- Filler: Nicaragua

Examining the 601 La Bomba Warhead II the first thing you will notice is the “fuse” that comes out of the cap and is glued down on the side of the barrel. Of course it is a bomb so you gotta have a fuse. Don’t light the fuse though, you will be smoking it the wrong way. The wrapper is a dark chocolate-brown and smooth with a just a bit of tooth. The foot of the 601 La Bomba Warhead II has a spicy pepper scent to it but I would say it is more of a white pepper than black. The barrel has a wonderful chocolate scent as I run it past my nostrils. I am feeling this is going to be a tasty stogie for sure. The band is placed on the foot and is uniquely different from the original 601 La Bomba. It has a WWII era aerial bomb in silver, white, and red – camouflaged and painted with a growling face that many airmen painted on their ordinance to let the enemy know it is coming for ya.
I removed the band and clipped the cap, the fuse fell off the side. The dry draw had a pepper and sweetness element to it. So far so good. I lit the foot (the proper fuse) and was smacked hard with heavy nasal cleaning black pepper. There was a red pepper tingling my lips. So is this going to be a spice bomb. I am glad I ate that steak dinner. After the first inch of puffing the pepper mellowed out quickly to my surprise. The ash was solid and medium grey. So what is this bomb hiding after the spice.

Moving toward the 2nd third, the 601 La Bomba Warhead II shifted direction and turned toward more of a sweet profile and as it burned into the 2nd third there were hints of cinnamon and I could easily describe it like eating a cinnamon bun. The ash was a tad flaky and the burn got a little wavy but that eventually corrected itself. The flavor continued to develop and now presents a cherry fruity flavor. Man, this is more like a dessert cigar. The flavors are mouth-watering. The smoke is full and creamy, a good smoke ring puffing cigar. The retro hale is clean and the flavor lingers gently on the palate. I think I should have had a cup of coffee or maybe a nice spiced rum to pair with it. The wrapper was getting very oily at this stage. The ash finally fell at the start of the last third.

What more can this cigar deliver? The finish was a growing black cherry flavor and a slight return to a deeper spice . The strength grew throughout and I would declare it was a medium to full body The burn settled back and the ash carried beautifully to the nub.
I can honestly say the 601 La Bomba Warhead II is a flavor bomb, sure to delight the most discerning palate as well as any new puffer that wants to move into a slightly bolder cigar.
