Let’s all be honest here, if you like a bold, spicy, and strong cigar, and you walk into a shop and see the Antaño 1970 on the shelf, how many of you pick that up? I know I do more often than not. I have always enjoyed this blend from Joya de Nicaragua, with its rich, enticing, flavors and aromas during the pre-light and throughout the journey to the nub. Funny thing is, every time I do enjoy one, I am not taking notes but just immersing myself in the experience. The cigar is just that good! Of course, the Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970 has been around for over 15 years. You may not know, but Joya de Nicaragua was established in 1968, making it the very first premium handmade cigar manufacturer in Nicaragua.
Drew Estate, the distributor of Joya de Nicaragua cigars has issued a press release this week that announces the latest addition to the Joya de Nicaragua Antaño line – the Antaño Gran Reserva. This new blend joins it siblings the Antaño 1970 and Antaño Dark Corojo as the next standard for Nicaraguan puro cigars. According to the press release – the Antaño Gran Reserva asks you to do one thing only: to keep daring.
And dare they did, as Juan Ignacio Martínez, Executive President of Joya de Nicaragua noted:
“The main alteration that comes with the Antaño Gran Reserva is that we have added fillers that have been aged for up to five years. As a result, we have obtained a more refined and mature version of the Antaño 1970.”
Our Factory Manager further commented “We are excited to introduce this cigar at IPCPR 2017, with the Antaño Gran Reserva we are further solidifying our portfolio by adding to our line of Nicaraguan original cigars.”
The Antaño Gran Reserva is said to carry the same character as the Antaño 1970 but instead uses select extra aged, tobaccos only.
The refined and matured Antaño Gran Reserva will be available in 3 vitolas:
- Belicoso– 6 x 54
- Robusto Grande – 5.5 x 52 Box Pressed
- Gran Cónsul 4.75 x 60
The company states that the Antaño Gran Reserva will begin shipping in August.
