Many of us get together regularly with friends to smoke cigars and to enjoy the brother and sister comradery that comes with the cigar lifestyle. Maybe you have been smoking for years, or maybe you haven’t. Either way we have all faced the dilemma of picking out cigars to share with a friend.

  • Will they like it?
  • Will they only smoke half of the cigar and then put it down?

These are legitimate questions to ask yourself while you are considering what cigars to bring to a get-together. Here are some tips to help you in this process.

Consider your friend’s experience level

How long have they been a cigar smoker? You don’t want to bring an Opus X to share if they have only been smoking cigars for 2 weeks. Chances are they might not appreciate it and you risk them only smoking half of it and throwing it in the ashtray. I’d hate to see your face if something like this happened.

Consider a cigar in the $7-$10 range such as a Yayabo Cirion (which was the #1 boutique cigar on stogie press a few years back) or a Cornelius and Anthony Meridian, or an Imperia by Mike Bellody. These cigars won’t break the bank, they offer great flavor, and an enjoyable smoking experience. They are also Stogie Press Sponsors! Each of these cigar brands offer a cigar for every smoking level. Now all you have to do is make the choice!

Consider what you have seen them smoke in the past

Past cigar choices can be your best friend especially if you are unsure of what your friend might like. If you have seen them smoke something in particular and they seemed to have enjoyed it then they would probably love to receive that cigar again; because you can’t go wrong with an old favorite!

Mild, Medium or full body?

Another way to approach this dilemma is, you can give out one of each profile of a cigar. This is especially helpful if your friend is a brand new enthusiast. Give them something new to sample and they can make their own decision about what they like. Who knows, they might like all 3 cigars you present them and are turned on to something new.

Smoke what you like and like what you smoke

The final tip on picking out what cigars to gift someone is just simply give them what you like! If you like a particular cigar, chances are your friend will also enjoy what you hand them. No matter what experience level, the point I’m trying to make is, it shouldn’t be some daunting task. The whole point is to have fun and enjoy your friend’s company and to relax with your favorite cigar. Life is rough sometimes but the time away from life’s pressures and problems is worth sharing something nice with a friend. Put some smoke in the air and enjoy!
