Cigar Lounge: Cigar Mojo – King of Prussia, PA

King of Prussia, an interesting name for a township.  It is located in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County. A little research shows the community took its name in the 18th century from a local tavern named the King of Prussia Inn, which was named after King Frederick the Great of Prussia. The small but growing township is home to the largest shopping mall in the United States, as far as number of retailers. It is also the headquarters of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region I.

Most important to cigar enthusiasts, King of Prussia, PA is the home to Cigar Mojo, a rather large cigar lounge, located right on the main road (Dekalb Pike), just off the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Cigar Mojo was the second shop I visited on my Independence Day weekend lounge tour and was added at the last minute as my tour host, Daniel Nina from Sticks Cigars and I agreed it was on the way to our planned stop at Suburban Tavern and Cigar Lounge.

Cigar Mojo has been in business for about 6 years and has quite a selection of cigars both large brands and boutique. The manager, Alan Price, is a Cigar Rights of America Ambassador, and though he does not own the lounge, his influence has helped Cigar Mojo grow in popularity even before the doors officially opened.

Cigar Mojo is by no means a small establishment. The building is divided into two separate areas. The front of the store includes the shop, a large walk-in humidor along with numerous stand-up cabinets lining the wall. There is also some small seating areas located in the front looking out the window in addition to cigar rolling table that is more than a decoration, it is used when they have cigar events. These event happen a regular basis and include many of the best brands in the industry.

The second part of the shop is the lounge area, which is extensive with plenty of individual leather seats, TV’s, a vending machine for soft drinks, member lockers, and a wet bar with glasses and ice. The shop does not serve alcohol but you can Bring Your Own. The lounge area has a 24 hour access allowing members to enjoy their time after business hours. Of course, the shop area is locked off from the lounge during non-business hours. Although membership is sold out, there are two levels of membership as described by Alan in the video later in the article and you can read the details on their website http://cigar-mojo.com/membership-benefits. The shop is proud of their membership program as noted on their website:

Membership to Philadelphia’s suburban cigar oasis, offers a unique opportunity to develop camaraderie within a special group of like-minded cigar lovers who fail to accept average. To be part of something is nice, to belong to something is special!

Cigar Mojo is a Drew Diplomat Retailer so you can find most anything from Drew Estate including some rare and limited DDRP cigars. They are also one of only a few My Father Lounges in the country and even have a My Father house blend cigar which I understand is quite nice though not as spicy as a number of the core My Father blends.

During my visit to Cigar Mojo, I sat down with Alan Price, the store manager, to talk about the shop history, the Premium Cigar Association, and other fun and interesting topics. One of the discussions we had was about the big move, Cigar Mojo will be doing. They have secured a new building just down the road and are converting it into a larger and elaborate cigar shop and lounge. They expect this to be complete by the end of the year and once done the original location will be closed and the new Cigar Mojo will open. Alan Shared with me a description of the new shop and current photos of the building which will house the NEW CIGAR MOJO.

Cigar Mojo fans are chomping at the bit to get into the new lounge. Alan also noted that the many brand owners he shared this presentation with at this years PCA Trade Show, were excited to be part of the new expansion.

I truly enjoyed my visit to Cigar Mojo and was impressed with the number of facings the shop had in both boutique and large brands. The lounge area was expansive, but I would say the seating, although comfortable, was rather awkward when you are trying to have a conversation with someone behind you. Of course you could rotate the chair if you want. I like the fact the lounge area has 24/7 access for their members so there is no rush to leave when the shop closes. Alan Price was a terrific host and I suppose I need to find my way back to tour the new Cigar Mojo lounge, as it looks to be amazing.
