In a Facebook post today, Benjamin Holt, owner of Dissident Cigar Co. announced he has informed Oveja Negra Brands that he can no longer represent the brand as the lower Midwest representative. Oveja Negra Brands is owned by James Brown, best known for Black Works Studio and Black Label Cigar Co.
In the announcement, Holt stated:
“With the incredible reception of Dissident (because of the awesome retailer partners & fans that have been beyond supportive) it has come time for me to fully devote myself to the responsibilities that come with ownership. It is now the time to take it to the next level.”
The Oveja Negra Brands Midwest sales position will be handed over to Mr. Joel Reser from Omertá Cigar Co. in Oklahoma City. Joel is described by Holt as super cigar nerd that has years of retail experience.
Benjamin went on to say:
“He (Joel) exhibits some of the best customer service I have ever seen in this industry & I have complete confidence he will continue all of that with Oveja Negra Brands. I speak for everyone at Oveja Negra Brands when I say we are extremely excited to have him on board. He did a fantastic job at Omertá Cigar Co. in Oklahoma City & he is going to do a fantastic job as a member of the Oveja Negra Flock. Joel, welcome to the team.”
Dissident Cigars were re-introduced with great fanfare at this years Premium Cigar Association (PCA) trade-show. The brand was purchased by Holt earlier in the year and are being manufactured at Fabrica Oveja Negra in Esteli, Nicaragua.
“We Are Just Getting Started”
In his closing remarks Benjamin exclaimed:
“To all the retailers & supporters I have worked with over the past years, thank you. Even though I will not be working with you in the capacity of a sales representative, I will still be seeing you all out there on the road. We ain’t done yet.”
