Cigar News: Cohiba to Ship New Edition of Weller by Cohiba

The third iteration of Weller by Cohiba® is now debuting at retail shops across the US. Like previous Weller by Cohiba cigar releases, the limited-edition cigar blend is made with tobacco aged in bourbon barrels.

Developed in partnership with Weller Bourbon, the 2023 release of Weller by Cohiba features a Connecticut-grown Broadleaf binder leaf that has been aged in authentic Weller Bourbon barrels transported from the famed Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, KY, to General Cigar Dominicana in Santiago, DR, where the cigars were crafted.

Dressed in a rich Nicaraguan Jalapa wrapper, the blend is made with hand-selected filler tobaccos from the Esteli and Jalapa regions of Nicaragua, with Brazilian Mata Fina. The hearty, Connecticut-grown Broadleaf binder, elevated by proprietary aging in Weller Bourbon barrels, creates a smoking experience that is simultaneously rewarding and indulgent. Rich notes of earth, oak, and black pepper abound, with an intriguing, soft burst of molasses.

Cohiba Brand Ambassador Sean Williams said,

“For our third blend of Weller by Cohiba, we deepened the exploration of barrel aging on tobacco. In calling upon Weller bourbon barrels to deepen the complexity of the binder leaf, we have added a layer of dimension that makes itself known not only on the palate but also through the aroma. This is a sophisticated cigar that pairs beautifully with bourbon or aged brown spirits and delivers a decadent smoking experience on its own.”

Weller by Cohiba 2023 is being released in one size, a 6” x 50 Toro featuring Cohiba and Weller Bourbon branding elements. Individual Weller by Cohiba cigars are presented in a handsome aluminum tube and will sell for a suggested retail price of $24.99 per cigar or $249.99 for a box containing ten cigars. This special release will be available through fine cigar shops across the U.S. until this year’s allotment is depleted.

About Weller Bourbon

In 1893 Julian P. “Pappy” Van Winkle Sr. was hired by W.L. Weller and Sons as a whiskey salesman. Today the Weller and Van Winkle brands are joined again at Buffalo Trace Distillery. The Weller lineup includes W.L. Weller Antique, W.L. Weller Special Reserve, W.L. Weller 12-Year-Old, William Larue Weller and other expressions.
