Crowned Heads announced in a press release this week that the company will be releasing a new rendition of the Headley Grange cigar which will be known as the Headley Grange Black Lab LE 2018. The orginal Headley Grange received quick notoriety among cigar enthusiasts and cigar media shortly after release.
In the company’s press release, they quoted Cigar Aficionado from the magazines 25 Best Cigars of the Year 2012 article citing the original Headley Grange:
“The goal was audacious and original: to make a cigar that tasted like the heavy, plodding drum beat of the lead-n to the Led Zeppelin classic ‘When the Levee Breaks'”
The Black Lab LE 2018 has nothing to do with some dark laboratory but instead a reference to the Black Labrador Retriever that used to hang around the Headley Grange recording studio where the classic rock band Led Zeppelin recorded their fourth album Led Zeppelin IV. The opening song on that classic album is named Black Dog and though it has no lyrical reference to a dog itself it was named for that Back Labrador Retriever.
Led Zeppelin’s lead singer, Robert Plant was once quoted as saying:
“Let me tell you ’bout this poor old dog because he was a retriever in his early days, and the only thing he could ever find in his late days was his old lady who lived two houses away from where we were recording. And he used to go see the old lady quite regularly, but after he’d “boogied” and everything else he couldn’t get back. And we used to carry him back,”
Keeping with the theme, Crowned Heads was inspired and built on the original 2012 Headley Grange blend. This time, Crowned Heads has created their first ever closed foot cigar that is designed to highlight the initial flavor of the sumptuous Connecticut Habano wrapper flavor once it is ignited.
The Black Lab LE 2018 blend is described as:
- Wrapper – Connecticut (Habano) Dark Maduro
- Binder – Nicaragua (same as original Headley Grange)
- Filler – Nicaragua (same as original Headley Grange)
The Headley Grange Black LAb LE 2018 will be offered in one 6 x 52 Box Pressed vitola and will be limited to 1,500 12-count boxes for a total of 18,000 cigars.
They are being manufactured at Tabacalera La Alianza, S.A. under the supervision of cigar industry icon, Ernesto Perez-Carrillo,
The company expects to begin shipping the Headley Grange Black Lab LE 2018 in early December and has set the MSRP at $10.95/cigar.
