Cigar News: United Cigars Introduces New La Gianna Packaging

Originally introduced in 1994 as a celebration of David Garofalo’s new born daughter Gianna, the La Gianna brand is now getting a face-lift for its 25th anniversary. That is, at least from the packaging perspective. United Cigars announced today that its famed La Gianna brand will get new packaging in time for this years IPCPR.

Original La Gianna Branding

Like Cinderella getting ready for the Ball, La Gianna has torn away her old threads to reveal the woman within. To commemorate this milestone and celebrate La Gianna’s 25th Anniversary this year United Cigars looked no further than its front step. Featuring a sophisticated new art work designed by Selected Tobaccos own Nelson Alfonso, winner of four First Prize awards for Innovative Packaging Design and Products at TFWA (Tax Free World Association) expo in Cannes, France.

The La Gianna comes in two different wrapper varieties – Ecuadorian Maduro and the original Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade. Both cigars contain Honduran binders and fillers.

They are each available in 6 different vitolas and packaged on 20-count boxes:

  • Bambino (4 x 44)
  • Robusto (5 x 50)
  • Corona (5.5 x 44)
  • Torpedo (6 x 52)
  • Churchill (7 x 48)

The La Gianna is hand crafted at Diadema Cigars de Honduras S.A. in Danlí, Honduras.

Though the blend remains the same as it has been for 25 years. The line will get new band and box designs. The branding will keep with the original angelic baby girl embraced by cherubs, but will revamp and reduce the image on the box and change the layout on the band. It should be noted that name “Gianna” means, “God is gracious”. The boxes are also updated to be to a 2 layer box instead of a cabinet style.

The box itself, designed by Davidoff of Geneva, is comprised of two parts. The cigars are contained in a lacquered drawer that slides out of the outer frame which is then laid into a slot on the back side to properly display the cigars. “We wanted the packaging to represent the true grace of the line,” expressed Oliver Nivaud, Director of Sales & Marketing for United Cigars. “After 25 years on the market it’s great to see her all dressed up to match the elegance of the blend.”

Blended at the Davidoff Factory (Diadema Cigars de Honduras, S.A.) in Honduras, La Gianna Havana looks forward to how the next 25 years will unfold. All six sizes have been enhanced with the updated packaging and are shipping to local brick and mortar shops across the US. Retail prices range from $6 to $8 per cigar, sold in boxes of 20.
