Kyle Gellis owner of Warped Cigars and Venture 1492, Kyle’s distribution and consultation company have reached out to Victor Nicolá to bring back his famed Chogüí brand of cigars. The brand had left the market in 2018 due FDA regulations, but now it is back thanks to Kyle.
The revamped brand is named Chogüí Dos77 Corojo and is a Dominican puro using the Dos77 Corojo wrapper sourced from farmer Leo Reyes. Nicolá noted that the changes in the blend are vast improvements over the original.
Victor noted:
“Unable to source the original leaf, I went back to the blending table and got to work. We added an original Sun Grown Corojo wrapper and adjusted the filler to include 2 new varietals of tobacco. This includes the unique and prized Medio Tiempo priming, adding abundant depth and complexity to the cigars soul.”
The full blend is described as:
- Wrapper – Sun Grown Corojo Original, Dominican Republic
- Binder – Undisclosed
- Filler – Havano 2020, Havana Vuelta Abajo (HVA), Piloto Mejorado (Medio Tiempo), and Corojo Original
When asked about why he was interested in bringing the brand back to market, Gellis noted;
“His following has come back…he is going to start a new shift toward the Dominican Republic.”
The Chogüí Dos77 Corojo is expressed in a single 5.5 x 50 robusto which the company calls Rogusto Extra. They will come packaged in 20-count boxes with an MSRP of $12.00/cigar. They are being manufactured at the Manufactura Rivas factory in the Dominican Republic and should be shipping to retailers next week.
