Cigar Review: Enébes Tabac Malay Toro – Rated 94

Today I offer a review of the Enébes Tabac Malay Toro. The name is a homage to Malaysia specifically the Sumatra wrapper that is used, albeit it is an Ecuadorian Sumatra vs a true Indonesian but the reference makes sense.

Enébes Tabac Malay Toro

The full blend of the Enébes Tabac Malay is described as:

  • Wrapper – Ecuadorian Sumatra
  • Binder – Ecuadorian Habano
  • Filler – Estelí, Jalapa, Ometepe

The Enébes Tabac Malay is expressed in 3 different vitolas, each packaged in 20-count boxes:

  • Gordo (6 x 60) – MSRP $12.99
  • Toro (6 x 50) – MSRP $12.50
  • Robusto (5 x 50) – MSRP $12.00

Like other Enébes Tabac products, the Malay is hand crafted at American Caribbean SA in Estelí, Nicaragua.

For this review I sampled two of the Enébes Tabac Malay Toros which I received from the company for the purpose of reviewing on Stogie Press.

Pre-Light Examination

The Enébes Tobac Malay is draped in a dark tan wrapper that has a bit of toothiness. The wrapper has just a few veins running through the barrel. The packing seems firm from head to foot with a decent give along the barrel. A double cap finishes the construction.

A single black and gold band adorns the cigar. It displays a golden tiger and the gold word MALAY. The tiger is a reference to Indonesia. The gold words Enébes is printed on the left and Tabac on the right.

Running the cigar along the nose, I picked up baking spice aromas along the barrel while the foot offered a malted vinegar note.

I sliced the cap straight across the shoulder and gave it some cold draw puffs that I found to be very good on restriction while delivering notes of peppery spice along with a bit of natural sweetness, malt, and tang.

Right off the first puff the palate is graced with a sweet, toasted cracker note and dose of peppery spice on the nose. Follow along as I burn this one to ash.

Final Analysis

The Enébes Tabac Malay journey begins with a blend of peppery spice and sweetness, accented by a subtle toasted cracker note in the background. As it progresses through the first third, a touch of malt joins the profile. An enticing touch of chocolate adds another dimension to the smoke to round out the introductory profile. Moving into the second third, fruit notes enhance the profile while spice and sweetness remain the predominant notes. Midway through, the chocolate evolves into a rich dark chocolate note. An increased sweetness emerges in the final third. With the moderate complexity and balanced profile, I would suggest grabbing a box of these. I rate this a 94.

Point Deductions: (-1) Mild Jag in Burn; (-1) Barrel Gets Squishy Deep in the burn

Bonus Points: (+1) Box Buy; (+1) Pleasurable and Consistent Profile Across Multiple Samples
