Pre-Light Examination

The Kiki Momo No. 42 presents itself in a distinctive narrow box-pressed format that immediately catches the eye. The wrapper is a dark to very dark brown leaf displaying attractive marbling and a healthy oily sheen. Construction appears excellent with a firm pack throughout and no soft spots detected from foot to cap. The cap itself is well applied, completing a cigar that feels solid and expertly crafted in the hand.

Bringing the cigar to the nose reveals aromas of cocoa and raisin off the foot while tangy nuances linger along the barrel.

After a straight cut just below the tip of the cap, the cold draw offers an easy pull delivering notes of fruit and cinnamon spice.

Cigar Review Notes

The opening draws introduce a combination of tangy fruit and cracker notes that immediately engage the palate. The fruit character settles rather quickly, evolving into a sweeter raisin-like profile while retaining a pleasant underlying sweetness. A touch of leather is detected off the wrapper, adding another dimension to the experience.

As the cigar progresses through the first third, a nutty aroma begins to waft from the foot, complementing the sweetness developing on the palate. Nearing the end of the first third, espresso notes emerge and provide a richer foundation to the profile. The ash eventually drops in a solid chunk, revealing a flat yet nicely centered burn.

Moving into the second third, sweet cracker notes become more prominent and are supported by beautiful sweet undertones that remain consistent throughout the burn. Midway through the journey, a subtle floral essence enters the mix, adding complexity and elegance to the profile without overpowering the core flavors.

The combination of sweet cracker, cocoa, earth, raisin, and floral accents creates an enjoyable and balanced profile that remains engaging throughout the smoking session.

Performance was generally good, though the cigar required a few relights along the way as it extinguished several times during the burn and there was a slight off burn in the second third.

Final Analysis

The Kiki Momo No. 42 delivers a nuanced and flavorful smoking experience highlighted by evolving sweetness, raisin-like fruit characteristics, rich cocoa undertones, and an intriguing floral component that emerges during the second third. The narrow box-pressed format provides a comfortable smoking experience while the blend maintains balance and complexity throughout the journey.

While the need for several relights detracted somewhat from the overall performance, the flavor profile more than compensated, offering a unique combination of sweet cracker notes, espresso, earth, cocoa, and fruit that kept the experience interesting from first light to final puff.

Medium in strength and medium-bodied in profile, the Kiki Momo No. 42 is a cigar that rewards smokers who appreciate subtle transitions and layered sweetness. Total smoking Time was 1 hour and 40 minutes.
