Cigar Review: Rojas Cigars Statement Corona – Rated 94

In 2019, Noel Rojas, owner of Rojas Cigars based out the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area aligned himself with Tabacalera Flor de San Luis S.A. in Esteli, Nicaragua to create 3 new cigars, KSG, Bluebonnets, and Statement. We reviewed the Bluebonnets last month and today we take a look at the Statement.

Released in September of 2019, the Rojas Cigars Statement has a blend described as:

  • Wrapper – Mexican (San Andres)
  • Binder – Nicaraguan
  • Filler – Nicaraguan

The Rojas Cigars Statement is expressed in four different vitolas, each packaged in 20-count wooden boxes:

  • Toro (6 x 50)
  • Robusto (5 x 50)
  • Corona (6 x 46)
  • Lancero (7 x 38)

MSRP ranges from $6.50 – $9.99

For this review I sampled two Rojas Cigars Statement Coronas, which I received from Noel for the purpose of reviewing on Stogie Press.

Pre-Light Examination

The Rojas Cigars Statement Corona is a lighter than normal San Andres wrapped cigar that has a well defined vein structure through the leaf. It is has a light oil sheen and feels solid to the touch. A triple cap and closed foot finish the presentation.

The cigar is adorned with two bands. The primary is the standard Rojas logo in gold on a black background. The secondary band, which is now common on Rojas cigars, is a thin black band with the gold word “Statement”.

As I ran the cigar along the nasals I picked up a pre-light aroma of fruit off the foot and a mildly pungent note along the barrel.

I sliced that cap straight across the shoulder and gave it some cold draw puffs that had a decent restriction and offered notes of peppery spice and and a mild earthy note.

With the pre-light much to my liking I reached for my double flame torch to warm the foot, which took to the heat well, with the closed leaf covering. I drew in the first puffs of nasal opening pepper to start the journey. Follow along as I burn this one to ash.

  • Peppery burst to the nose right off the first puff
  • Fruit and toffee enters as the pepper pulls back
  • Ash fell revealing a flat but centered burn cone
  • Maple syrup aroma wafts off the foot
  • Slightly jagged burn
  • Light spice joins the mix
  • Well balanced set of fruit, spice, and toffee flavors
  • Spice increases with a dark chocolate nuance deep in second third
  • Mild wave in burn again but never needed a touch up
  • Spice maintains down to the final
  • Medium to full
  • Total Smoking Time was 1 hour and 20 minutes

Overall, the Rojas Cigars Statement Corona was a quite pleasant cigar with a solid core of fruit, spice, and toffee flavors. Construction was solid carrying a solid ash between falls. The burn line was decent with just a slight jag through the journey. This is one I would say is box worthy and you can get them at The Underground Cigar Lounge online. I rate this a 94.

Point Deductions: (-1) Mild wave in burn; (-1) Flat Burn Cone

Bonus Points: (+1) Consistent and pleasurable across multiple samples; (+1) Box Worthy
