Today I offer my review of the Schöelen Cigars Dunkel II. This blend is the second in the Dunkel line following the original Dunkel.

While the original Dunkel was basically the same blend as the Connecticut with the exception of the wrapper, the Dunkel II has a unique blend described as:
- Wrapper – Ecuadorian Habano 2000
- Binder – Nicaraguan Criollo
- Filler – Nicaraguan
The Dunkel II comes packaged in 20-count boxes with an MSRP of $20.00/cigar. They are handcrafted in Nicaragua at an undisclosed factory. They are expressed in (6 x 52) Toro vitolas.
Pre-Light Examination
The Dunkel II is draped on a dark brown and lightly toothy wrapper. There are a few noticeable veins running along the barrel. The cigar is packed well and firm to the touch.

A single band adorns the cigar, using the same motif as all Schöelen cigars. This time it defines the cigar as The Schöelen Dunkel II.

Running the Dunkel II across the nose, I picked up barnyard notes along the barrel along with hints of spicy nut while the foot offered a refined spice note.
Once I sliced the cap straight across the shoulder of the cigar, I gave it some cold draw that offered a creamy sensation with a hint of earth, tea, and a touch of pepper.
Using my dual flame torch, I warmed the foot to an even orange glow and drew in introductory notes of cream chocolate to start the journey. Follow along as I burn this one to ash.
Cigar Review Notes
First Third
The cigar opens with inviting notes of creamy chocolate, immediately setting a rich and smooth tone. Cedar notes follow closely, adding structure to the profile, while the draw produces full, thick smoke that coats the palate nicely. Deep into the first third, mild spice notes emerge along with a touch of caramel, adding subtle sweetness and complexity. The ash drops in a solid chunk, revealing a well-formed and centered burn cone.

Second Third
Transitioning into the second third, the chocolate deepens into a richer dark chocolate note, bringing added intensity to the blend. Hints of raisin begin to appear, offering a gentle fruitiness that complements the darker tones. Midway through, sweet tea leaf notes emerge, adding an intriguing layer, while a beautiful maple syrup aroma enhances the overall sensory experience.
As the second third progresses, the strength begins to build, moving into the medium-plus range. Toward the end of this section, a deeper cinnamon spice develops, adding warmth and a touch of complexity to the evolving profile.

Final Third
Moving into the final third, the profile softens slightly with a return of mild cream notes, balancing the stronger spice and chocolate elements that preceded it and bringing the cigar to a smooth and satisfying finish.
