Cigar Review: Sinistro Cigars El Burro Corojo Robusto – Rated 92

Introduced this year at the Tobacco Plus Expo (TPE) in Las Vegas, the El Burro by Sinistro Cigars is their latest offering building upon the company’s successful portfolio of blends. The El Burro is offered in two blends; a Mexican San Andrés maduro or a Dominican corojo. Each is expressed in three different vitolas.

For this review I will focus on the Sinistro El Burro Corojo Robusto which I received from the company at the show for the purpose of reviewing on Stogie Press. The blend is described as:

  • Wrapper – Dominican Corojo
  • Binder – USA
  • Filler – Dominican, Nicaragua, Pennsylvania Broadleaf

As noted, they are express in three vitolas and come packaged in 20-count boxes:

  • Robusto (5 x 52) – MSRP $5.50
  • Toro (6 x 54) – MSRP $6.00
  • Presidente (7 x 58) – MSRP $6.50

The Sinistro Cigars El Burro is hand rolled at Tabacalera El Artista in the Dominican Republic.

Pre-Light Examination

The Sinistro Cigars El Burro Corojo is well constructed cigar with an oily coffee bean brown wrapper with a slight reddish tinge. The veins are all but invisible and the cigar is packed tight and solid to the touch. A double cap finishes the presentation.

A single white and black band adorns the cigar with an image of a dapper smoking burro in the center. Just below the cigar is identified as the El Burro Corojo.

Running the El Burro Corojo along the nose, I picked up a pungent and spicy barrel along with notes of baking spice off the foot.

I used my cigar knife to slice the cap straight across the shoulder and proceeded to give the Burro a few cold draw puffs that I found to be perfectly restricted and offering notes of fruit and a growing cinnamon spice.

Using my double flame torch, I gently warmed the foot bringing it to an even orange glow and drew in the first puffs of Cinnamon spice to start the journey. Follow along as burn the El Burro to ash.

Final Analysis

The Sinistro Cigars El Burro Corojo Robusto shows what an excellent cigar you can get for mere $5.50 retail. Though not overly complex it offered a pleasant journey from foot to nub and had me wanting to light another one up, but I only had one. I especially enjoyed the mix of cinnamon and cream early in the burn. I would pair this with a morning coffee or an evening rum. The construction was quite decent with just a light wave along with a small off burn midway that did require a mild touch-up. With the price point extremely wallet friendly and the fine flavor profile, this is most certainly box worthy. I rate this a 92.

Point Deductions: (-1) Ligh wave in burn; (-1) Small Off Burn; (-1) Mild Touch-up Required

Bonus Points: (+1) Box Worthy
