Calmer heads could prevail in the 114th Congress as Congressman Tom Cole (R-Okla.) recently introduced H.R. 2058, the “FDA Authority Clarification Act of 2015″
The proposed legislation would prevent the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from banning tobacco products including cigars that have been on the shelves an in production since 2007.
This would protect both manufactures and cigar shops from unjustified lost revenue. The original deeming regulations had a clause that would pull all cigars from the shelves of cigar shops that date back as far as 2007. If left as written, it would cause undue lost revenue at the local shop level and force manufacturers to submit all the blends to the FDA for approval costing them hundreds of thousands of dollars in the approval process not to mention the lost revenue from sales. Furthermore this could cause many small manufacturers to fold due to these losses.
We strongly urge you to contact you representatives to support this critical bill to preserve your cigar freedom.
Thanks for this timely article, Stogie. I will be dropping a line to Senator Nelson.
